Unfortunately this mindless situation happened in the state I live in….Colorado.

Saw it on the news but couldnt figure out what had happened because i thought no one could be that dumb.

So irresponsible....we usually expect better from law enforcement, but I guess not. That woman was lucky she wasn't killed. What is wrong with those guys! They should be charged with negligence. I hope she sues them.

I'm reminded of the time in the 70s during the gas crunch of a guy in a gas line stopped on the tracks. If he stopped before the tracks he was afraid someone would cut in front of him in line. Then the train came...he got out and the train destroyed his car. I guess he didn't need gas after that...

My maternal grandmother commited suicide by standing on traintracks in rural Indiana and got run over by a train.

Oh dear god, seagrass. Unfortunately not an uncommon occurrence. Every few months the local trains here are delayed because of an incidence on the tracks.

I've heard that sometimes people commit suicide by jumping off of a platform right in front of an incoming train. And often the driver suffers long term mental trauma.

On our medical issues related program on national radio today there was discussion of some of the problems that doctors face, so many are having burn-out, but one said that a woman with a disease facing early death, when exploratory imaging wasn't available for 3 weeks or 3 months chose MAID (Medial Assistance In Dying) instead, and while her practitioner could understand her, he found it some troubling.

Not far from me a few years ago a lady, while crossing a train track during a snow storm, got over to far and got stuck in the rails. She and her children got out but she went back to get her cell phone. The car was struck while she was trying to retrieve it and she was killed.

Sorry to hear that too Seagrass. A friend who's a retired Amtrak conductor has been a witness a few times, he says it happens more often than people hear about.

Yes. UNBELIEVABLE. When I saw it on Twitter, I thought it had to be some sort of fake news. There need to be criminal charges filed here.

I can't figure out what bothers me about what you're saying terriks. Law enforcement get things wrong. Things happen some times. It happens disproportionately, and work needs to happen (both with law enforcement issues and minority issues). Nothing is cut and dried. It's nuanced. There are many facets.

I can't tell if I'm more perturbed that you're downplaying what's happened to the cuffed, helpless person (regardless of skin color), to make a point that things need to be changed, or more perturbed that you come across as anyone who is outraged, should be more outraged other times.

I'm outraged when anything goes wrong that was intended. Or because of ineptitude. Or... Loads of reasons. Regardless of skin color, sexual orientation, gender, the list goes on. All people should be treated with respect. Including law enforcement who get it right. And there are many. Root out the corruption. Get body cams. Sure! But no reason to bulldoze all law enforcement as corrupt and ignorant.

Idiot of the year award. I find no humour in that. A woman could have died. She has multiple broken bones and will be having nightmares for years. Both officers should lose their jobs. Probably their drivers licenses as well. There's no way they didn't know a train was coming. I used to live 100 feet from a busy train track. I could not only hear the train coming a mile away, I could feel it vibrate the ground and my house! They had plenty of time to move their vehicle off the tracks and to safety. But they chose to leave her in the car and save themselves. So much for to serve and to protect.

I heard that one of the officers has been relieved of his duties. I expect more will happen, but whether we hear about it or not, I have no idea.

A woman--a wonderful gardener, by the way--who lived in my house many years before we came here died after being hit by a railroad train. I was told she was deaf, and was walking on the tracks. That sounded odd to me--first of all that she would choose railroad tracks to walk on, and secondly that she didn't feel the vibrations of the approaching train.

A few years ago I had an Ancestry membership and used it to look her up. I was sad to read that she lived five days with multiple broken bones after being hit by the train. If it was suicide, I don't imagine that's the outcome she envisioned.

I watch something on YouTube called Virtual Railfan that shows people pulling out or walking in front of trains all of the time. The site calls them Darwin Award Winners. There is one town that is frequently on it where the train goes down the street with shops on either side. People think they can pull out in front of the oncoming train all of the time or walk in front of it.

I feel for the train conductors/staff. There has to be painful emotional fallout for them from such incidents, whether suicide, accident, or whatever the reason the person hit was on the tracks.
