could you install your rail lower and move existing wall light over vanity?

@mojavemaria Potentially. That would mean putting the rail on the window frame, and I'm not sure how that would work.

What is below the current mirror? I would possibly put the mirror on the wall to the left, or what about the wall opposite the sink? It’s obviously not a bathroom where anyone would do hair or makeup, so a “quick check” mirror is what is needed. Can you put up picks of the whole bathroom? Do any men need to shave in there?

Very clever idea on the mirror. However, you are remodeling. Why wouldn't you fix the layout of the bathroom then, instead of spending all that time, money, complicated custom items that don't move the needle, and stress to keep a bathroom layout that doesn't work well? I can see this is not the bathroom's 1st rodeo and was done by a DIYer - there is a plate that looks to be covering an original jbox for a light; there is a receptacle straight down from the GFCI; the toilet looks to be perpendicular to the vanity; the toilet paper holder is sideways; the toekick vanity is away from the wall. Look at it from a different perspective, where you may arrive at the need to start fresh.

Does the vanity have to be right there under the window?

Here is the current layout. I am standing in the doorway.

We are expanding the shower to where the toilet currently is, and moving the toilet to where the medicine cabinet currently is. Unfortunately, we have to work within the existing space. It is a bumpout, with slanted attic space on either side. We are also doing another major project (finishing a basement/adding a bathroom/laundry space) so budget restrictions are a real thing.

Also, excuse the mess. it is our teenage daughter’s bathroom. Once it is finished, i have a feeling she will be sharing it with me, because the shower will be so much nicer than the main bathroom.

A large recessed medicine cabinet might work on the left wall. A lot of them have mirrors on the inside of the door. You could install a light above the medicine cabinet to help with lighting and keep the one over the toilet too.

@Karenseb we cant recess a medicine cabinet to the leftof the window, as beyond the wall is sloped attic space. But I dont hate the idea of putting a light above the toilet. it might balance out the light we will likely put on the wall to the left of the window.

In an ideal scenario, we would move the window down to be positioned over the toilet. But i dont believe that is in our budget.

The recessed medicine cabinet should fit within the wallspace to the left . They are about 4 inches deep, the space between the walls.

I replaced my l wall hung bar lighting with swag lighting and ceiling hooks. You can control the distance between the bulbs to center one above the window the other above the mirror.

Love the suggestion, above, of an articulating mirror to the right of your vanity, vs. a slider across the vanity.

Can you remove the window treatment so we can see the true situation of the window and wall?
