Window and door treatment confusion
Hello Houzz
We always received good advice during our home build and have another question for the group.
We planned on going with a Roman shade for two 48” windows that flank a television in our living room. The rear of our house is just about wide open running from kitchen into dining and then into living spaces.
We would like to do something (treatment-wise) for the 8’ sliding door we have that is in close proximity to living room.
We were originally thinking curtains but go back and forth over the appearance of a curtain rod and how curtains would accent the Roman shades on the windows.
We’ve thought about leaving the slider untouched and untreated. Not a huge privacy concern at this time but we’re trying to figure out if we could work on ‘finishing’ the space with a designed treatment for the slider.
Any recommendations for the group as to what to do with the slider that would accent or go with Roman shades on the large windows?

last yearLovely home. I did 2 solar shades on the slider - hung on the trim - and a wood cornice to hide the rollers. I dislike the black hole look especially in winter. I have a roman shade on the kitchen window.

Comments (2)I did mini blinds split at the center of the doors so I could open the slider side and walk outside. Years ago I bought the 2 inch slats and I loved the look (very plantation looking) but they were very heavy to open. I wore out the cords and had to replace them. I now have 1 inch privacy blinds but I feel like the are not as "open" as the 2 inch. My view feels a little more restricted. Comments (1)There are better sill flashing membranes now that allow for a 1 piece corner as opposed to cutting the membrane in the corner. Comments (5)Since you say living with these windowed doors is only short term temporary, go with the cheapest solution: RediShades. No hardware or complicated installation. I got mine on sale at HD for $1.79 each. They don't leave any sticky glue behind when you decide to remove them. You can get them in paper (cheapest) or plastic, light filtering or room darkening, ect. Just wanted to update on our window and door treatment progress and solicit any feedback from the community here.
• We installed woven wood roman shades on the windows flanking our TV.
• We installed a linen curtain with a black 1” metal rod / ring combo over the 8’ slider. The black rod was supposed to tie into the black metal art over our fireplace.
Our conundrum is the curtain rod is currently positioned 10” from the ceiling. It is at this position due to the 96” curtain length and we went by a 2/3 rule- dividing the space between door frame and ceiling into thirds and positioning it 2/3 of the way up.
Is this rod height ok?
We positioned at just above the door to simulate going with a 84” curtain length and think that’s too short.
Looking for feedback on cure curtain rod height.
