Guest room/closet design question
Comments (5)What don't you like about pocket doors? I'm leaning toward having the more utility closet (in the media room) about 4 feet long so the 3 foot opening will expose most of the contents, which will be on shelves. The guest room closet will be about 6'6" long and will have a clothes pole as well as shelves. We're trying to decide whether to center the door. One possibility is to have the door 6" from one end, with about 2 feet of shelves, then the clothes pole. That would expose 18" of hanging clothes, with 3' "hidden" where little used clothes hung. Another possibility for the guest room closet is to make it 30" deep and make it a walk-in, where the clothes pole in perpendicular to the back wall, and shelves on the other end. I originally ordered the wrong doors and the vendor won't take them back except in exchange, I ordered the largest pocket doors they had....See MoreGuest Bedroom Design Dilemma
Comments (16)Congratulations on your new home! I have, like others who have responded to your post, had considerable luck with garage sales, estate sales, and thrift shops. Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Goodwill, Salvation Army, and St. Vincent de Paul can all be good sources for furniture and housewares. Nextdoor can be a good source for free or reasonably priced items (I know this from experience; others have had success with Craigslist and/or Freecycle, but I have not bought anything on either of those sites). Discount stores (Target, Walmart, and the like) can be fruitful, as can IKEA (you may want to check reviews of products on the internet before buying). I have even had some luck in finding items that have been placed at curbside or next to dumpsters for disposal but happened to be just what I needed for a particular purpose. Be wary of used cushions and pillows, as they may harbor vermin; if you buy such items used, have them cleaned thoroughly. Create idea books, but set a realistic budget and stick to it....See MoreGuest Room Dilemma
Comments (10)I like your paint color and furniture and it looks like you have a very beautiful home. To me, the painting above the bed doesn't seem quite right. I like to leave room for guests to put their things, so if it were me, I'd leave the small table bare (or mostly bare) and put art work on that wall, where the guest can see it. I'd also keep the family photos in the rest of the house. Do you have a chair for them to sit or place a bag on? Maybe scoot the table closer to the door and put a chair on that wall, towards the window. Depending on that proportions, maybe put the coastal painting over the table and chair ? If it were me, I'd probably go for a simple but larger mirror, one that could be used by people of different heights and which would reflect the view of the window on the opposite wall....See MoreDesigning Den into Office/Guest Room Combo
Comments (3)Draw the room to scale and also the furniture you plan to the same scale then see if it all works. I do not like guest room s in my office but that is me. What you show and what you describe are not the same. I guess a sofa bed but this in not a big space so planning is a must. if you want guests in there too . How fsr from a bathroom is this space ? Maybe just forget the guest part and design for your use only then 2 choirs the desk and a TV with some maybe a Sapien book shelf for an empty corner to make the best of the space . Also do you need storage for th office equipment ?...See Morejck910
