Interior designer needed?
Comments (6)My brother and sister-in-law used a designer for this process, and she probably saved them far more than they spent on her consult fee. Before they hired her, they were stumbling into upgrading one material, then discovering none of the other base materials for the next choice coordinated with the upgrade so they had to go with another upgrade, which ended up requiring another upgrade for the next item. And of course, the staff at the design center have exactly zero incentive to help you be strategic about your choices. The designer was able to help them figure out what was worth it to upgrade, what could be done that would still work with the basic choices for other items, etc., and she saved them a LOT of money as a result....See MoreQuestion about interior designer subcontracting the trade.
Comments (5)Contractor laws vary from state to state. My understanding is that here in Virginia, interior designers would be operating within their professional boundaries when hiring decorating trades (e.g., painters and paper hangers) but wouldn't be if they crossed over into GC/remodeler territory by hiring plumbers, HVAC contractors, carpenters, etc. With respect to payment for services, it would be unusual, in my experience, for a contractor to expect payment in full prior to the work being performed. The exception is when the work is a change from the original contract scope of work--i.e., a change order. It is common practice to require payment of change orders in full upon approval of the change order....See MoreHas a stoneyard ever called and made you decide right away on a stone?
Comments (9)I've been shopping for Taj for several weeks. One stone yard here will hold it for 30 days, another one for 10 days. But I think people place things on hold and then forget about it when they find another slab they like. Maybe they're calling you to see how serious you are about the slabs? I've had a hard time finding slabs that I like, with the finish that I want. I think Taj is popular right now so you've got to jump on it when you see what you like. It's a big investment, and the countertop directs other design decisions like backsplash, so I'm surprised your designer isn't quicker on checking it out. Can you let your two go and hold the next two in the bundle?...See MoreProfessional Interior design help needed
Comments (0)Hi there, I currently have cream distressed furniture (see photo) in my bedroom but would like to add the dark furniture (see photo for specific furniture ) but I’m not sure it goes well together, what do you think? I was think of switching out the hardware on the dark furniture. Also seen in the photos with the white furniture is the flooring that it all needed to go with. Btw, I don’t want to paint any of the furniture, all pieces are solid wood (Bernhardt & Stanley furniture) thanks in advance for your time and consideration!...See MoreSusan Emig
