Adding shutters to improve curb appeal
Comments (13)As long as we're bringing up the garage doors. If you buy, at some point you might want to look into replacing what's been put on the home. They do draw a lot of attention. I think more than necessary because they're not complementing the house. The detailing is too busy for that home and they're in the wrong style. The house already has enough going on with various material changes and other details. The doors look Craftsman style while the house has a French Provincial styling. They aren't mixing well. I would look for something understated and rich with a European influence like the house. I can picture a stained finish but that might not be practical. I might also stain the recess below the arches and above the doors using the door color so it blends into the doors and the arching stands out almost giving the look of arched doors. It's hard to see the front door but it appears too casual. Something classic, for a stately home. Bringing some curves into the landscaping would also soften the home's strong lines and warm or relax things more....See MoreOpinions Needed- Curb Appeal on a Budget
Comments (13)When I took homemaking in junior high school, I made an A-line mini-skirt; At that time, we were taught to use 2.5" deep hems, which resulted in bunched-up fabric on anything other than a pencil skirt or a very full skirt. With a lot of worrying at the stitches & smashing the stitches flat with a hot iron, I finally got the bunched fabric to lie flat, & I was happy. My homemaking teacher was happy. My mother put on her glasses, & turned up that hem, & frowned, & said I needed practice in making my stitches flat. Assuming you paint all sides except the back, a person would have to be on foot, in your back yard, scrutinizing the paint job, to find an excuse to criticize. If they do, just nod sagely & say, "It's just the same as Sylvia's mini-skirt, isn't it?"...See MoreOld Brick Cottage Curb Appeal - No room for shutters, green metal
Comments (5)Not a Pro. The house nearby looks like it is a light color, why would you do the same....... To me it looks a little mid-century modern. :-) To help it look a little cottage. Add color. I would add a small slate patio to the front of the home and add colorful patio furniture there. Making sure the cushions or the furniture match the green on the roof in small amounts. Maybe a lavender door, with two Green ceramic planters filled with colorful flowers. A row of lavender instead of the green bushes will tie in the lavender Door. I would not paint the brick....See MoreShutter Help/Curb Appeal on a Budget?
Comments (4)"Any tips on which style/color shutter to get?" Ditch the shutters as shutters need to look like they could possibly be functional in my opinion and 2-wide windows that will not be the case. Brighter color front door would be good....See Moretracefloyd
