Comments (5)Never caulk the side casings to the sill,it's the last place for the moisture to escape. Damming it up there is the primary cause of rotten sills and casings. Horizontal seams are never supposed to be caulked, if properly flashed or detailed to begin with they won't admit water. Comments (5)We don't recommend the use of fiberglass insulation around window frames because fiberglass loses it's thermal advantages once it's compressed. We only use spray foam. There's really no "standard" per se. Comments (1)Explain the details as to flashing and barrier as you expect/want - if you can't be there during the installation, have them do a certain phase on one day so you can inspect it - and then they will complete it the next day - obviously it should be weather tight to the next day. As to shiming, they are explaining typical replacement window methods - again, if you want shims - insist on them - adjustment screws in the jamb should suffice though....See MoreChris Ryan
