Black Madeira Starting

Black Madeira is my absolute favorite after losing a mature plant a while back i acquired several plants .In reading different fig forums and some that hype different figs as this or that this fig does live up to what is said about it.

Knowing that some not all will ripen here in our cold area with some care they are a joy to consume .

They have the most berry flavor i have tasted in a fig that just lingers afterwards on the palate so darn good this fig

Yay 😀 so happy for you ! I know what you are talking about Martin, and it is my favorite fig too.

When did you noticed that it started to swell?

I am waiting for my dream fig, I started looking for it about 4, 5 years ago, I received a few cuttings this season 2 of them rooted, one of them grew like corn, the secon one started to grow two 2 brunches one of them produced figs.

I have no idea wat it will taste like, I cant wait to pick one of the two, although they look almost same ripnes

It is in ceramic container, it was getting to hot to touch so I slipped it in this white plastic waste basket.

It was noticed Monday morning Also notice then the Black Tuscan doing the same but further along somewhat ripening with hopes that the fig will improve it's taste as from what i read it supposed to be similar but so far not the case time will tell.

Madeira Island was a big disappointment and it went to the burn pit.this afternoon where Ronde met its fate a while back when i found out it was not what it was suppose to be.

Hence the new plant Violette De Bordeaux's arrival and comparing it to old Vdb pictures on disk it looks like its what it is suppose to be,

Gosh i really like that fig cultivar's taste.

Nice Martin, I had my Black Madeira in SIP large containers for 3 seasons it was doing great. This past February I took it a part and carefully root rune it a putt everything back together. My thoughts where that it was a success. In spring it started buding nicely, but fruit buds started about a month later then usually, so I thought that it wasn't top prune enough.

But what was strange, was that on at last 4 fruiting branches it was devaloping double fig on each nodes.

It was growing and after the 6th leaf it stopped growing new leaves, which is normal with my Black Madeira.

I plucked most of the figs and left only 3 figs on each fruiting branch, and left one branch with all the doubles to see what happens 🤔.

Most of the time BM statrs ripening figs in second half of August here if I give it head start, not this season though. Only about 5 days ago one of the fruiting branches one fig started to swell and turn color 😀 wow I wasn't expecting that anymore this season.

I will make picturel later on, have quite a few thing to do + my granddaughter got injured she fall on her bike 🤨 KIDS❗

I am glad that my Black Madeira made you smile 🌞

Dolly is attracted to green container so that I can just roll it in an our in spring, but made mistake when I was making that dolly, I should have chosen larger wheels ! Silly me I was chosing wheels from esthetic side 🤨

I found better angle of BM I hope you dont mind the writing on image, it's just that we humans to forget.

This is how far ripening Boss favorite fig is, yesterday's image

    Breaking News Martin !

Black Madeira and Boss favorite fig they begant o bow to words ground, both at same morning !

    And this is this morning

This is actual color, I dont use any film on my fig pictures.

    I am very excited 😀

On this last picture I am showing diferent versionso of Violette de Bordeaux family, it just so happens this time that the VdB are smaller, they all always differ in sizes, I am not trying to say that VdB bares smaller figs 🙂 I hope you understand.

Q; now that your fig trees are done ripening, do you keep them outside to get dormant ?

    Hi Anna

Yes they are in yard again no more fall fig shuffle with the small ones being under the house eve up against wall . There was 1 light frost and waiting for one more .

Your pictures look normal as i do the same really would not know how to color pictures .

Was there a taste difference between your Vdb and your Negronne they all look very nice.

Also hopefully your Bass fig meets your expectations after tasting your other types shown.

Thanks for showing your pictures they are always nice to see.
