Mantle fall decor
Everytime I try to decorate my mantle for fall I fail miserably Any helpful tips or inspiration photos? I would like to keep it thru Thanksgiving as I am hosting. Centerpieces I can do but my mantle always looks awful

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoI like mantel decor to be fairly simple. One suggestion might be to put two vases with branches (I’ve used some from our curly willow tree) on the mantel. Nothing more than that on the mantel. Then buy some heirloom pumpkins with colors pulled from the art work above the mantel. You can find heirloom varities in various colors. Put a grouping of maybe 3 of them on the hearth on the left side of the firebox. An uneven number is nice. Different sizes are also nice and you can group/stack them however you like. I prefer real pumpkins and they can last a very long time. I actually still have a few from last September.
These are faux but easy to find the real deal all over right now. Nice grouping on your hearth. Great stems add a lot to pumpkins, so try to find some nicer than these ”nubs.” :-)

Boring Mantle - Decorating Help Needed

The clock was a different type and material, so it broke the pot-pot-pot thing -- though I agree it's not perfect. A 'horsehair pot' gets it's decoration from horesehair dribbled onto the hot pot straight out of the kiln. That's what gives it the smoky brown haze effect and ridged lines -- actual burned hores hair. - CrazyOne - The fireplace stone is cultured stone in the Chardonnay color, Southern Ledgestone pattern. The seat and mantle are natural limestone slabs. And while it's supposedly legal for wood-burning, we prefer the instant gratification of gas, so that's what we use. Comments (3)Thanks caminnic... Hi Kareen, It's not my dog, however it looks exactly like our first beagle, Patch. I originally got this pillow on ebay, for my sofa in the den. When we did this chair, I jazzed it up a bit and placed it on the chair, but missed it on the sofa, so ordered a second one. Call me nuts, but I love the pillow and love beagles too :) Our old beagle CJ, can no longer jump up on the sofa. Most of my accessories I've had "forever," and it's always fun to treat myself to something new. The mirror is new too. I moved the original mirror I had over the chest to the upstairs hall. I've only had the starburst a few weeks. It came from Lamps Plus and was on sale for $149 when I bought it with free shipping. Now it's back to the original price of $169 but the shipping is still free. Here is the link. It has 16 out of 16 positive reviews. I've yet to add mine. Honestly, it's really beautiful in person. It doesn't convey very well at all in a photograph. You can't see the gold wash in the crevices. It's just enough to dress it up a bit and make it special. The gold is very subtle. I looked for a long time for a starburst. I loved lots of them, but most were SO pricey that I couldn't afford t hem. The mirror over the FP cost a whopping $39 so I decided to go for the starburst. 2 years agoI am a total fan of all the dried florals that are out there as well as foraging around the neighborhood woods for dried grasses - they bring great texture and a "loose-ness" to the arrangement, brass is nice for warmth as well as vintage ceramics -

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoLess is more, but scale is king. Those vases are too tiny for the scale of your fireplace. The main center item should be about the width of the firebox below. Then layer other items in front of it and don't line them up light soldiers. Don't be afraid to stack things like candle sticks on book stacks. Try warm colored candles for your tablescape and add greenery underneath the three pieces. Pile on more of the little pumpkins to show the overflowing abundance of the harvest season.

Thank you so much for all your help! I posted my mantle somewhat naked to give an idea on space. I do not have a mirror to replace the picture so it will stay.

I think an elegant display like this would look wonderful and fit your style well.
It’s the middle area I like most, you could leave off the branches in jars or do something different on the ends.

If you use pumpkins, use faux ones. I’ve had two instances of not realizing mine had started rotting on bottom … it was a nasty mess on my fireplace.typeandrun thanked Jilly
PRO2 years agoIMO if you are going to do decor for special occasions you might just as well go crazy I think this is kind of cool and I am a minimalist but at Christmas I go a bit crazy.Maybe witht his just no hearth stuff.

@typeandrun, it looks like a very nice room. Since you like minimal, I was thinking about this mantel but for year round purposes. With your art work I think just a couple vases is nice but larger than the ones you have. Tastes really very when it comes to mantel decor. All that really matters is it looks good to you.

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoSuggest looking for items that you can bring out yearly. Use height and groupings and a basket could be a nice touch as well. Since you like a miminal look, don’t suggest layering with lots of gourds.
