I'm coveting the Wyeth gull paintings. Not so much the ones that look like Target's logo. There are some nice touches, but then she ruins it with the kitchen and bar area clutter. The views are amazing. I fast forwarded through some of her diatribes on "fugly" things. The main house style leaves me cold but the smaller ones were nice (except the garage--another cookie cutter feel.

Yes, and given they had pride of place, I am guessing they were especially dear. I actually really liked the FLW designed house they turned into a "dining hall."

Her criticism of the previous owners was tacky and off-putting. What a classless person. Sorry, Mtn, but I couldn't make it past the second claim that they had "more money than sense."

I watched the whole thing. If I had to guess I’s say she was filmed in her manic phase and the crash is imminent.

Other observations:

1. where is the staff who grow the vegetables?

2. love the dining hall but those chairs are very uncomfortable and the kitchen there can’t do much more than warm up food

3. she has never actually used a pizza oven

4. she is a woman of a certain age who is trying to be cute and coy

5. the previous owners are not the only ones with more money than sense

I skimmed with the sound turned down and my impression is that the setting is nice but that the sum is less than its parts.

I do hope everybody realizes that my remarks are very much tongue in cheek—- I am not diagnosing her with a mental illness, just having a bit of fun with her delivery.

The house is untemarkable but she acknowledged that by calling it a view with a house… although perhaps too many times.

Unfortunately, I think everyone who does something in this sort of media is expected to have a personality with a P . Whether you have good taste or are very capable of what you are doing on the program is completely beside the point, way in second place to your ability to be an extrovert and ham it up on camera. And I think this sort of expectation of "performance" is even extended to the ordinary people whose houses they are featuring.

There's that show on HGTV with the twin sisters, which I have never seen and probably never will so I can't say much about the content. But the commercial seems to put a lot of focus on them doing weird dances during the voiceover. Do I really GAF that they have "fun" and "quirky" personalities? Not in the least. I really miss the days of actual content in media. Almost everything now has the quality of being written and produced by an unpaid intern with unremarkable grades from some unremarkable college.

I also got the feeling that she is not from Maine. Or New England. In my experience, people who grew up in New England tend to be far less self-aggrandizing.

I watched the first 5 minutes...I'll have to get back to it later...it's incredible! Her remarks...I like them! We say, "We're NOT decorating in Cripple Creek brothel." Around here, people tend to do leather tapestry furniture....it's gaudy...it's expensive...and not comfortable to live with. :0) I'd hang out with her in a heart beat tho... I also like her seagull originals. Years ago I tried buying Edward Lear original turtle paintings and had to settle for prints. Every now and then an artist just bowls us over.

That was fun and boring.

Well, that was interesting. I looked them up, and they have a fancy highrise here in Houston too. I like the way she incorporates art everywhere. The cluster* as her husband describes it, astounded me. Seems to work for her, but wouldn't for me. But overall, yeah, I could live there.

She is just way too perky for me. If she is who I think she is, she is from Houston and her personality is more Texas than Maine. I like the house very much. That is a killer view.

I didnt appreciate her bragging about her oversize garage,, her unkind remarks about the PO or her ex-husband. I liked her sweater.

Somewhere I have a picture of me with Jamie Wyeth. I met him at a fundraiser at the Wyeth Museum in Chadds Ford, Pa. Love his work, especially the pig.

I have used the word fugly for years now, after a fugly house was built in one of our previous neighborhoods. We saw it coming and going, as it sat on the main street at the end of our cul de sac. One morning we had a heavy fog that completely hid the house. Sent it to DH and a couple of neighbors/friends with "best photo every of the fugly house." They died.

But back to the Maine house. The viewing is breathtaking. Kitchen clutter killed me, as did "dead baby head" description. Favorite things were anything blue added to the bland furnishings.

I liked most of it-especially the Rivington Pyne sculptures. Hated the Brian White dresses and the Target-looking pics. I really liked how she had a story behind a lot of the art and items. I normally don't like old trunks-like the one with the CT on it-but I loved it was the owner of Tupperware. I don't see a problem at all with the "gaudiness" she talked about the previous owners. I mean, a bathtub for eight? And, naked croquet?? The house before they got it WAS "fugly". I adored her and heck, she actually reminds me of ME-LOL and most every other southerner I know. So, I can see why some here don't like her personality. We southerners are fun and don't mind being silly at times! I bet her husband fell inlove with her personality-especially him coming from the north. She's a hoot!

I think most Anglo-Saxon words have returned so much to the mainstream that they no longer have much power to shock or offend. Actually the combination of F---ing + Ugly to create the portmanteau Fugly is clearly spelled out in the Oxford Dictionary.

I have also noticed in Free Bee (the free clone of NYT Spelling Bee) you can use almost any Anglo-Saxon or vulgar word to add to the list while many moderately known but more technical terms will often get rejected.

I googled "fugly" and the definition I posted above was said to have come from the Oxford Dictionary??? Merriam-Webster Dictionary says "exceedingly ugly". However, Urban Dictionary popped up and listed the definition Allison posted.
