Need landscaping ideas!

I realize this temporary pool area looks pretty terrible at the moment, and I still need to finish the edging on one side. I’ve been focused on clearing out what used to be a giant, overgrown flower bed so we could set up a small pool for our family to use (because of drainage issues with our yard this is about the only elevated place we can put it at the moment). Anyway, I was thinking I would likely put white landscape gravel around the pool and maybe some pavers, but I’m planning to take the pool down for storage in the winter to extend the life and have been trying to think of ideas to make the area not look so terrible when there’s not a pool there from October through May. There will be a large space covered in black plastic when it comes down. Any ideas on a fairly easy way to cover the space or how to make it not look so tacky? And any landscaping ideas are very much appreciated! Thanks!!

One other thought since I couldn’t figure out how to edit my post…would an oval shaped piece of astroturf look silly where the pool would typically be?

I think this fence made from pallets is a pretty clever idea. It would weather to a nice gray.

"If anyone give me a hand sketch that would be awesome." This is what folks hire and PAY landscape designers for!! If you can provide actual photos of the property and tell us where in the world it is located you will get a lot of suggestions (some good, some bad) that may help and maybe even a cheesy photoshopped rendering. But don't hold your breath for a drawn out plan!

Where I live you need a fence around a pool so do that first then see if you need much else maybe the fence could be more solid on that side since trees or bushes will still block the view . I have no idea where the pond is in relation to your home so maybe post a plan showing that . Where is the road where do you plan the walkway ? I need to see a whole plot plan and where the road is.

I would be sure that taking it down every year would not shorten the life of the pond…also how much water would you be losing/ wasting….by emptying it ?…we have neighbors who have one that they have had for years …they just cover it in the winter….with good success…we are in the mountains in a similar setting…and we are on well water…as a neighbor it would be hard on our water source if they used and emptied the pool every year

I have been back and forth on whether to leave it up. I’ve heard mixed opinions on it. Fortunately it’s pretty small for an above ground pool, about 10’ by 16’. I’ll have to take it down this year anyway so we can do a little re leveling on a couple places but maybe I’ll be brave enough to leave it up next week!

I think the most important point is…to have a proper full cover to protect it…from filling up to much with rain and to prevent the sides from bulging or being damaged……as to the water waste…a slow draining hose to the areas that will benefit from the water is a possible solution…depending on the durability of the pool…emptying it and storing it …may get a longer life out of the pool

Just to be a little more specific..if you go with the “rock” option…pea gravel will be least likely to pierce the pool bottom…and will level out easily…larger rocks are mostly crushed and can have very sharp edges…another thing our neighbors did to make it safer for kids…was to add wooden stairs/steps …with railings….and a little platform at top …where they can wait their turn…with no chance of accidentally falling in.
