Please Please help me decorate my great room...need to order furn
Comments (21)You asked: I hate it. The bottom one looks like someone took a traditional, wicker sofa and wrapped it in leather. Those very formal, old fashioned arms, and bun feet, don't go with the eclectic, casual style of the upholstery. The shape of the red sofas is much more appropriate, but it would be better in all leather. Leather is great with kids so long as they don't have sharp things in their pockets and can be trusted not to poke pencils into it. It cleans up with water and saddle soap. But it does stick to bare skin, and can get hot. It's nature's vinyl. Which is why they combine it with fabric. Bad move. Either be fabric or be leather. The weight and texture are too different and they rarely come out looking great, especially after some living happens. The red bench is cool! Less imposing than a sofa table (console), but with a lot of the same function. And it's folky and funky. My Aunt had the two sofas flanking the fireplace in her living room. It's a great conversation grouping, but not so much for TV watching. For that, especially for the kids who probably look at the screen more, you want a straight on view. You can do a big square, though. An L of couch and settee or second couch or loveseat, and a couple of small easy chairs that are easy to get around on the opposite side. You have your red chairs. I'm not sure if they're too big to allow people to walk by easily if you close up the square, but even so, you can always pull them over for company, and keep them by the piano for family time with running kids. Re Larry, have your other family members sit tested him? I totally agree about the shape. It's very tired. But that LOVE thing is important. Your family room couch should feel Ahhh to sit on. I'm sure it'll still be there though. Maybe you can find a similarly comfy couch in a more classic shape that will give you more breadth of possibilities. Comfort comes first, but it can be done with a little more style than poor Larry. ;-)...See MoreI need help picking a pink for my 10 dd's room, Please
Comments (10)kmcg85- Love that pink! It definately has that cheerful look about it. But I'm not sure it will match with the pink in the comforter. I took my comforter to SW and the interior designer there matched the other colors with it, because I am not good at choosing colors. busybee3- Ice plant looked alittle on the purplish side with the comforter. The window treatments are the same ones that come with the comforter set, valance and Black and white polka dot drapes. I'm planning on doing alot of black and white polka dot accessories. lori111- Thanks! If it was up to me I would do soft white walls, but dd REALLY wants pink walls!...See Moreneed help with bonus room/flex space
Comments (2)For occasional adult guests (no more than several times a year), consider investing in inflatable mattresses. Then sparsely decorate the room so you would have room to inflate the mattresses as needed. If your guests will mostly be children, a large thick gel mat on the floor and a sleeping bag could work for them. You might consider built in cabinets on one wall within which are a pair of Murphy beds. If the room has a vaulted ceiling or the height is sufficient (more than 8'), you might consider adding a loft. Unless you actually don't like your overnight guests, you shouldn't even consider trundle beds or cheap "day beds" as the mattresses are usually really thin and very uncomfortable for anyone weighing over a toddler's weight....See MorePlease help. Comments (6)sheloveslayouts has the best solution. you have a great space. I think the cabinet companies idea is terrible, they sell cabinets are not great at design. I would never stack a washer/dryer or remove a window unless there was no other way. I had stacking once, much prefer the flat top that side buy side give you and hate having to turn on a light every time I use a room without a window. All these pictures came from a houzz laundry photos search and even though they all show front load you can have the same with top load without placing a countertop and giving yourself enough room to fully open the door when placing shelving or cabinets. the first 2 are just more pictures of her suggestion. the 3rd is a cabinet that you could place directly opposite your door next to the window if you need tall storage. 5th is rolling laundry sorter that could be placed in that same spot. I have one without the top shelf and hanging bar and love it. I sort lights, darks and colors or towels. 4th gives you another option without hanging rod. and last is an option for stacking if you really want to that gives you storage without taking up the whole room....See MoreRelated Professionals
