Need help - how to cover 16 ft window - pics included
Comments (13)thanks for all your great responses and kind comments on my room. We do enjoy our room! I am going to look into the anti-glare window tinting products. when I did an original search on anti-glare, it came up with a lot of computer screen products. I need to do a bit more searching. Boxerpups - thanks for posting all of those great inspiration pics. I am definitely not planning on making them myself. as I look at them, I like pics #1, #3 and the last one. I am a bit of a minimalist and too much pattern or frou frou is definitely not for me. What do you think is on the windows in pic #3? Some sort of roller shade? Also, do you think I can get roman shades like pic #1 in an 8 ft length? Do you have the source for those photos? maybe I can find out what the products are if I know where the pics came from. I also had another thought - we are planning to upgrade our basement from semi-finished to finished and it will be a great place for watching movies and football on a cold winter day. My husband and I were just down there this weekend discussing ideas for the upgrade. If I take the $$ that I would spend on a window treatment (which I think could end up being rather expensive) and get started on the basement remodel sooner rather than later, I can keep my undressed big window and my DH would still have a place to watch daytime TV (without a glare). After this thought, I called our contractor next door neighbor and left a message to get some estimates on the things we need done in our basement to make it comfortable. I am going to run this all by my husband and see what he thinks about getting started on the basement right away....See MorePainted Panel Covered Den-What Type of Window Coverings? PICS
Comments (13)I vote for some Roman blinds in a nice print or stripe. Something that will embrace all the colors you're bringing in. You may want to check out Etsy. When we were doing our bathroom upstairs, I wanted something different for the window and found a woman there who made valances. Her workmanship was fabulous and I was really happy with the transaction. My favorite thing about it is it's more unique so every other house in the area doesn't have the same thing. A lot of the sellers have pricing that's reasonable too and the choices are unlimited. Comments (9)Beautiful space. Do you get lots of light in from that window? The cabinets are dark and I think natural light would be wonderful so keep the coverings on the light side, not the heavy rich stuff of the early 90s. A window shade or curtain should have a bit of space. If you are buying something from Smith Nobel, JCP, Macy's or some such place they will have specific instructions for mounting. I do not believe it will rub the paint off. There will be a bit of damage to the walls as screws into the wall will need to be puttied when you take down curtains later. My favorite place for window covering is Calico corners... Have you visited a shop? They are so much fun. Here is a link http://www.calicocorners.com/ I like fabric as fabric can really soften a space. Although if you love bamboo or woven shades that can be nice too. Comments (11)Don't feel bad. This happened to me last week when I tried root some bamboo at the stalk level, which I have been able to do before. I ordered plants from ebay and the roots arrived rotted, so I had to figure something out to save them. Sometimes it just doesn't work out--I had to throw one yellow stalk out. These plants are ideal in soil, but I naively thought they would last indefinitely in water (marketing, ugh). You can take the green, healthy leafy stalk (not the yellow woody part) and root that, and see if you can get a better plant. Be patient, as it can take a month or more. Place it in some bright light by an East or West facing window, ideally. How-to video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-8-1GZs-tU...See MoreOlychick
