Moving a huge thermador range

Hi,

We have purchased a home that came with a large thermador range, six burners and at least 36”, but I’m not even positive that it isnt bigger. The problem is, i cannot move this behemoth. The person that lived here previously seemed to have never cleaned underneath the range, which is a few inches off the floor, but doesn’t have enough space for me to reach my arm all the way under it. I can also see crumbs stuck along the sides and that grease has dripped behind the range. How do I move this giant thing in order to properly clean all around it? I want to be able to scrub that floor! My last stove was a cheap GE that I easily pulled out to clean around once a week by myself, but I don’t know how to manage this thing. Do people with these giant stoves just not move them out ever? Is there some sort of trick that I don’t know about? Using a wet mop may work in the future, but for now, and for house cleaning a few times a year, I do want to know how I can move the range.

Google dust brush to get under appliances. Plenty out there that are flat and long enough to get under there.

On oaks, Hypoxylon (or Biscogniauxia as it has recently been reclassified) is basically something that takes advantage of dying trees or branches. It's more of an indicator of death and decline than a primary cause. In that article about the Ghirardi Compton Oak, I find the claim that "the canker is showing signs of retreating, now affecting about 9 percent of the tree" to be very dubious. Once Hypoxylon invades the sapwood, there's no "retreat" - you can't un-rot the wood. More likely, they've been pruning out branches as they die, and that 9% represents the most recently-dead portion that hasn't been removed yet. It looks like a tree on its way out in this Sept. 2014 image: Compared to moving day (June 2012): Although I can understand why it's sometimes tried with a tree that has some historical significance, I'd be surprised if the long-term success rate is very high on moving big, old trees such as these. Even if they were just digging the trench around it without lifting up the whole thing and plugging it into the ground again, that amount of root damage would be very risky. Madiline616, I listed Thermadore at the bottom along with Viking and Dacor as a reply to an earlier post by you, hence my frustration. You know there is a little window at the bottom of the first page where you can type in the brand of appliance you are considering and it will bring up all the previous posts about the brand as most of these questions have already been asked. In your web browser you can be more specific, like problems with Viking range etc. Keep in mind that not every manufacturer makes every appliance well. Viking has had problems with their ranges, while their other products are good. Elux has problems with refridgerators, but people love their induction cooktops and wall ovens. Kitchen Aid makes a nice fridge, but some people have issues with where the vents are located on their dishwashers, and their wall ovens have control board issues. Use the window first and then if you can't find an answer, create a new post. Oh, by the way I also have the CC which I am overall happy with, and I was lucky enough to have a local dealer as I live in the Minneapolis StPaul area, but I would have bought the CC sight unseen. I still think the Bluestar is a nice range too, and unlike Emilner I kind of like the more industrial look. sorry again for my frustration.

My home is under construction so I am not yet using my appliance choices. I am going with Blue Star. I have never used Capital so I can not comment on that. I have had the Wolf cook top and wall ovens, viking range and thermador range in past homes. Of those I would say that Wolf AND Viking were equal. However, Wolf is having issues with the interior ovens cracking, I am sure you have read all that. Viking is just making a comeback so who knows. I did have to open the Wolf oven to turn my food for even cooking. The Wolf cook top is not that powerful. I think with Wolf in particular you are paying for the name. It lacks power. It is pretty, and you will get the best service. So if that is the most important thing for you then Wolf is your best bet. Thermador was a very big disappointment for me. The oven cooked unevenly and the griddle took a life time to get hot and never actually did get hot enough to enjoy cooking on it. The Viking was a work horse and eventually had issue with the screws on t the door. Not a big deal. I know they had issues with this but it really was not a big deal. After I had mine the company sort of went down hill and got a bad name. I am going with Blue Star Platinum range top and the new electric wall ovens. I want the the open burner. (personal preference) For me, I also want the 25K BTU burner for wok cooking. It does offer a true simmer. I will be able to throw the griddle on where I want and getting hot enough is not going to be an issue with the high power burners. I am not a trained chef but I love to cook and do A LOT of it. I have not heard any feed back on users of the new BS electric wall ovens but I like that it has a pizza stone in the bottom. I am hopeful that this feature will prove to be wonderfully useful with pizza and rustic breads. It fits a full sheet pan and has 5,000 watt Infrared broiler. My top priority was a wall oven with French Doors. I think I found an oven that had even more than I was hoping for. All in all, just consider what is your number one most important thing to have and go from there. Then just consider how you cook and what you really need or want. You will find comments positive and negative on everything. Wolf will give the best service, or so everyone says. If that is the most important thing for you then just prioritize the other things on your list and see what you are left with. Coming to my decisions were gut wrenching for me. I changed my mind what seemed like a 100 times. I finally figured out what was important to ME besides the french doors. Once you really consider how you work in the kitchen one should start to rise to the top. Trust your instincts.

Sorry, just took a look at this thread again and noticed your question...by the time I got to Miele, I had decided on induction, so I didn't give the Miele an actual test drive. I did give it a pretty thorough inspection at the Miele place, though, and thought it was a very sexy range -- and the performance seemed very similar to the Wolf dual fuel. I say that b/c the Miele also has the stacked burners, which I really liked, but the BTUs are higher than Wolf (which top out at around 16k, I believe -- Miele was closer to 20k or so -- I can't quite remember). The Miele ovens on the 48" range were very nice -- the smaller one is a speed oven, and the bigger one is a regular convection. The speed oven wasn't a big plus for me personally, since I really wanted a steam oven as a second oven, but there are people on this forum who love their speed ovens. One thing I really liked about the Miele oven, which Wolf doesn't have, is the burst of steam option, which is great for baking (you can program up to 3 bursts of steam for up to 6 min. each during cooking). I didn't care that much about the MasterChef options on Miele, but again, others love these. At any rate, the Miele seemed very similar to the Wolf, I liked the steam option on the oven better and liked the Miele burners better (also, if you're interested in a grill, theirs was excellent and seemed very similar to the Wolf, which I think is the best in the business). If I had stuck with a range, I would have been very tempted by the Miele.

You would need a couple people to move it. But I would not, since you could move the gas line in the process. It’s not a good idea to have the gas line moving back and forth. You’d provably also scratch the floor.

I admit I am impressed you cleaned behind your old stove once a week !! No clue how to manage this new big one. Something low profile like a Swiffer wetmop?

No one moves their 36" or 48" ranges, unless the service guy is there moving it to do repairs. Most people vacuum underneath and slide some type of mop under there once in a while.

I guess if you are a messy cook and drip stuff regularly on the sides and back, you might want to add some more steps to your cleaning routine.

@vinmarks - I actually responded to your comment by re-posting my first comment, and now that one has been deleted too. I think sometimes Houzz doesn't like certain links and deletes posts automatically that have them. I had linked to the Amazon listing of that Oxo duster. My comment had also advised @ktj459 against moving her Thermador range, since she could move the gas line in the process. It’s not a good idea to have the gas line moving back and forth. It would probably also scratch the floor.

Miranda all your posts are showing. Maybe it is an issue with the App or browsing on your phone. I mostly use a PC at home, but I sometimes don't see the same information when I browse on my phone.
