New room setup: How should i set up?
I have a new room and have no built in closet and was thinking of using one of the window areas for a closet! an open concept

New Phal Owner- Is this Set-up ok?
Comments (5)That hybrid is one I was looking at today at a big box store. But hopefully yours is not the same as the ones I saw, which had that tag in every Phal even if not the same color. Anyway if you will be growing indoors year round than your culture will be a choice of either Bark mix or a Spag moss. If you use spag moss you can get away with watering less. The spag will hold water the bark mix you must water more often and for a longer period of time since the bark, when new, holds little water. When bark is old it breaks down and will rot the roots. Phals will rot fast if the mix holds too much water for too long. Either way the medium should dry out before watering again. If the clear pot look as though the roots still have some growing room than you can keep it in the same pot. As long as the mix is still good. If it is bark the bark should be still in chunck form. If you just bought it than it should be fine. Good light but not direct sun. Will the plant be growing in natural light or man made? An apartment maintained at room temps in the fall winter will hamper the plant from reblooming. Many can stay in bloom from an old flower stem but in order to cause a new flower stem it needs night temps to fall into the the upper 40's in the fall/winter. Smaller Dtps (Doritis x Phal)can bloom more frequently and can spike without the cooler weather, but if yours is like the ones I saw today than it is a true large flower Phal. and will need a cool fall the spike new shoots. Comments (4)Hi and welcome to GardenWeb! Well, I don't grow vegetables myself, just flowers. However in regard to growing vegetables in your unheated garage, I'm sure it would depend a great deal on which vegetables you grew. I know that lettuce, for example, will grow in temperatures in the forties. On the other hand, warm season vegetables, such as tomatoes, would probably require temperature at least in the sixties, probably even the seventies? The heat mats are generally used only for germination. So once the seeds sprout, off goes the heat mats and plastic domes. Continuing to use a heat mat after germination would probably just tend to dry the growing medium out too fast. In any case, you'll need a thermostat to properly control the heat put out by the mat. So, after germination, you're basically depending on the air temperature of the garage. And, usually the moist growing medium will be cooler than the surrounding air temperature. Your success would also depend on how many vegetables you intend to grow. For one thing, your fluorescent lights need to be kept very close to the plants, usually no more than a couple of inches. You won't be able to get a lot of seedlings under two 48" lights. Of course, you may be planning on adding more lights (you didn't mention). If you do decide to try using the garage, maybe you could surround the growing area with those silver mylar emergency blankets, they're very inexpensive and should help a lot. last yearlast modified: last yearI would place a perfectly sized ottoman and big pillows under the window in the bay for a cozy spot. You can get very creative in ways to have an open closet that remains tidy without spending a lot of money.
I would invest in oversized art to fill a large wall space and infuse your personality into the room. Use the colors in the art you choose to select bedding and accessories.

last yearAgree that you have enough room to add IKEA PAX wardrobes. You could go simple with interior rods and adjustable shelves, or can custom.
If there is a space between the back of the cabinet and the wall before it hits the angle, install a narrow bookcase for shoes and bags.
