Use textured wallpaper to cover old wallpaper I cant remove?
Comments (5)Karen: which technique are you doing? Textured wallpaper over old wallpaper? Or one of the others? Rereading my post (after getting some sleep) it reads more like I am asking about texturing with drywall compound (like imitating venetian plaster, or a tuscan stucco look). PLEASE come back and tell me how it went! I have seen the paper bag technique done on home improvement shows. ItÂs actually simpler. Dipping in poly would be very messy and sticky. You adhere the paper with latex glaze or acrylic matte medium. Then cover with the same clear liquid to seal it in before painting. My hesitation with doing that is if someday down the road you didnÂt want such a texture, you could NEVER get it off. The entire room would have to be skimcoated by someone with the skills to get it really flat and smooth. I donÂt think I want to go that route. At least with drywall compound texturing it could be sanded off smooth easily....See MoreNeed pics of painted color beadboard wallpaper in breakfast area
Comments (23)The angle of that last photo definitely shows the true size of the room....thanks for posting it! I like the blinds since they give a lighter, brighter feel. But hey, that's just my opinion. : ) And.........I have to agree with Caminnc's comment about the cushions re: color vs pattern. You have a lot going on with remodeling, so waiting on the window treatment may be wise at this point. Hanging some simple panels on each side of the window, along with the blinds, would change the whole feel of the room, but I understand you wanting to stay with the current WT. I think the white is 'glaring' at you because of all the other dark colors in the area and it appears to be the only white anywhere except for the flower stand. Finish the rest of the tear-out........and the white may grow on you!...See MoreTexture over wallpaper
Comments (7)It can be done, but it is rarely done well. In this house, most of the paper peeled off in long sheets, but the house before this one, we tried every trick in the book and that stuff was not coming off without taking some of the drywall with it. We sought more advise and here's what we wound up doing: We checked for any loose corners or seams that needed to be secured and floated the seams with drywall compound -- just a little bit needed to make seams not show through) and then painted over everything with the shellac based KILZ. The shellac is better at penetrating the paper and adhering it to the drywall for good. You then treat the wall as if it were new drywall. You can texture it, but if you have a good smooth wall now, you might just want to take some of that drywall compound and address any imperfections you see through and then paint the smooth wall. A smooth wall is actually a higher end finish -- most walls are textured to reduce cost in the finishing. If the paper is not bonded to the wall or if it has any loose areas, you are setting yourself up for a nightmare. Once you go over paper with paint, it will be harder, if not impossible, to get the paper off. The first layer of paint might be okay, but the next color or the one after that or any extra moisture in the room could be enough to loosen the paper and more layers of paint mean more weight to pull away from the wall. Once it starts to fail, you may be pulling off all the drywall and trim and starting over. There is a reason people curse those who so quickly paint over paper. Proper preparation of the walls is the labor intensive part no matter which way you go - if done right. If not done right, the labor and materials are even more the next go around....See MoreNeed a paint color for this wallpaper
Comments (12)What is your daughter's favorite color? What colors look good on your daughter? Does your daughter tend to be easily stimulated or more reserved? Does she need help concentrating, relaxing or being more social? I know you stated a preference for a blue gray, but children and teens tend to be drawn to brighter, more saturated colors. Gray can be depressing and teens often have issues with self-esteem and depression and may do better in an environment with more color. Blue is calming, green increases focus, peach increases social skills, Being in an environment that makes a girl feel pretty can help increase her self-esteem, being included in the decision making process builds confidence....See Morekandrewspa
