Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 10/9
Comments (21)Great tips, Legomom -- especially taking a closer look at your food diary! I have zero questions about why I am "stuck"... and while I have done better this week, I am still not back on track. I seem to have this stubborn thing going that is allowing me to take kind of belligerent license. I don't think it is self-sabotage .. maybe it is a reaction to having my dental work pretty much done? I don't know... but I need to stop it RIGHT NOW. Like I said, I have been doing better but still not where I need to be to continue my weight loss. I will say this, when I am focused on healthy eating, IF and general healthy practices, I need only two meals.. one of which is often a glorified snack. I feel satisfied/not hungry and I can stay around +/- 1000 calories. Once I open the door to snacking, I open the door to mindless eating and sneaking up into higher calories. I know that I don't need the snacks.. and worse, they start to become something I think I deserve. I really try to keep any kind of self-rewards separate from my eating .. that is a dangerous slope for me because I think I deserve A LOT! LOL My latest thing to obsess over are my growing jowls. I don't have to look very far to see where they came from-- my mother, my grandmother and my great grandmother all had them and they look/ed just like mine. I think the weight loss is making them more apparent (also my visibly swollend thyroid which I refuse to call by its name). Not sure if I can do anything about them but hoping they become less obvious if/when my skin tightens up. I just want to take a knife and carve them off!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/20
Comments (19)Congratulations @yeonassky and @Funkyart on the losses! I'm also sorry that you've been sick, Funky. I hope you feel back to 100% soon! @jmck_nc glad to have you chime in. It's been great to have this supportive group for all of us. My weight is still hanging in just a pound or two above the goal weight I hit at the end of summer. I'm not going up further, but I'm not getting it back down to that level either. I'm still doing IF 5:2. I think am stress snacking on my 5 "normal" days, so I am going to work on being more mindful about that. My husband was quite sick last week so that altered some of my eating as well since I was trying to accomodate his needs. The good news is that I think all of this work to improve the health of my digestive system seems to be working because I don't seem to have gotten sick. Last week I missed two days of exercise, but I'm not going to feel guilty about it. One day my husband needed help with things before and after work and I just ran out of time. The other day was the service for the child in my family who passed away and I underestimated how draining that would be. Afterwards I came home and curled up and couldn't get myself to go exercise. But I'm back at it going strong this week. During one of my swims this week I chatted with a friend and he had some drills he's been trying out so I tried them out the next time and woah did that give me a good workout. I really struggled lifting weights this morning with my shoulders and back so tired from the swim yesterday. I even managed to force myself out running in a light snowstorm today despite my laziness screaming in my ear about getting cold and how much nicer it would be inside the house under a blanket. Now I have the benefit of seeing my dog completely passed out from the exertion. For Thanksgiving, I'm going to stay in my home town and eat with my parents and sibling who are gluten free and vegetarian capable cooks. Unfortunately this means my husband and I will be apart for the holiday since he is going to his mother's home which is 4 hours away from our house. He's driving from a completely different state (due to his work) and so if I want to go, I'd have to drive there alone. My family tends to cook fairly healthy, so I'm looking forward to the food. I will try to be reasonble in my portions, but I'm not going to stress about it too much. I will be eating pie. :) On a clothing note, I ordered several dresses in preparation for the service for the child who passed away. I ended up keeping several of them because I think they will be good additions to my wardrobe in the future as well. But the biggest thing for me was feeling like there were several good options that actually fit my body. With my weight going up and down over the years, I was definitely at a high weight and low morale at the beginning of this year. Being able to work with my doctor to make a plan and stick to it to really get fit has been so rewarding. I am more physically capable of being active. And it sounds vain, but having clothes fit well really helps my morale. I even ended up order one more dress that I found on sale that is not for a funeral but I ordered it anyway and I feel fabulous in it. I never would have picked something like this a year ago. This is a picture of the dress (on a model, not on me)....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/27
Comments (26)Oh my, @salonva I completely forgot to respond to you when I had to rewrite my post that I lost! I am so glad you are joining us! As far as I am concerned there are no tangents and nothing is off topic.. everything affects our health in one way or another so share whatever is on your mind! And I love that your DH makes veggie snack bags the night before. It's so simple-- and really sets you up for success! If I have to stop working and go cut cucumbers and clean celery etc, it's less likely I will reach for the veggies! @pricklypearcactus congratulations on pushing through the snow and sticking with your exercise plan-- but please please be careful! Ice and bad knees aren't a great combo! So as far as Holiday and weekend eating -- I really wish we could all just enjoy a day or a celebration without having guilty feelings or regrets. I know it is something we all struggle with but one day isn't going to overturn a year of hard work. It just isn't-- unless we allow ourselves to be derailed. These are the holidays and there will be treats and snacks and rich meals and alcohol. I am no nutritionist but this is how I plan to navigate the holidays... Moderation is the key.. eat only the things I really want and love and keep the serving size in check. Often times, I want just a taste of something.. sometimes a serving. I will allow myself a serving but no heaping plates! I will continue to make soup-- it is so easy and helps keep me on track even if i end up having soup for 2 meals a day! I will not let myself get overly hungry (as I can do when I am busy)... this is a recipe for disaster for me. I will keep healthy snacks in the house and easy to prepare healthy meals. I was good about that through the summer but not so much lately. I will keep up on my fluids -- and continue to drink tea at night. I have been inconsistent but when I Do drink tea at night, I don't really want or think about food. I will go out and have cocktails with friends and family-- I won't deny myself that after a year of being locked in the house-- but I will stick to club soda as a mixer and limit my drinks. I had more holiday spirit this year than I've had the last couple of years. I plan to keep it going and I refuse to get tangled up in frustration and guilt about my eating and weight. Luckily I will be very busy over the next few weeks between work and dealing with the mountain of boxes to open and wrap ... that should help keep me in check when I am at home. And if not, I will revisit my list as needed! LOL...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/26/2023
Comments (7)I thought I was doing ok-- steady and mostly healthy diet-- but I have to acknowledge that the pounds I have been "up" the last few times are not normal fluctuations but increased weight. This is the first since I've started losing weight that I have a net increase in weight (vs the normal fluctuations). I am not happy about it but I do know where they've come from ... while maintaining a pretty decent diet otherwise, I have allowed some chips and other savory snacks in. I have also not been making soup as religiously. Soup is really THE easiest way for me to stay on track. This next month will be about keeping a lean diet most days and increasing my walking/exercise so that I can have small indulgences at holiday gatherings and on my trip. I could whine and pout and complain -- but I did this to myself. I know where I was too loose. I need to be more serious. I need to get excited to lose the next 10! Part of my strategy to get excited and focused is getting my hair done -- I know that doesn't make any sense lol but when I am looking good, I tend to work harder on all aspects of my appearance and health. Oh yeah -- and I am going back to weighing daily. Apparently being obsessed with the scale helps keep me accountable! How are you all doing?...See MoreFunkyart
