Strange September weather for SoCA

otcay
last year

After a terribly hot spell in late August-early September, we ended up with a series of very hot humid days, culminating with hurricane Kay's flirting off the coast. She brought gusty winds followed by strangely gray misty days but still very warm. The air was like a wet sponge but the sky didn't open up, just sputter and spit. Our temperature low last night hovered around 85°F, something almost unheard of for CA. There were a few brief showers tonight which was much welcomed. We were under 3 warnings/watches all at once today: excessive heat, high winds and flash floods! What a roller coaster.
