This won't help you immediately because I can't give you the name or model number. We installed something similar at our vacation home. It's in the middle of the woods and we needed something to light the way when we take the dog out at night. We put up 4 fixtures at the corners of the house and they always come on when we walk into the sensor zone. They're on an adjustable timer so they stay on for 10-15 minutes. They're also operated by a switch next to the door so we can turn them off when we go to bed or leave. I really don't need those lights to come on every time a deer walks down the driveway. I'm not sure when we'll be back there but I'll try to remember to jot down the info the next time we visit.

The problem with your layout is that the island is not going to be your Prep Zone - it's oriented incorrectly and there's no water. So, you will be forced to prep b/w the cleanup sink and the range. If that's OK with you, then with a few tweaks that layout might work if the aisles are decent. However, you stated you wanted to prep on the island in your original post. Note that the refrigerator will need at least 12" b/w it and the wall, so that tiny sliver of filler you added is not enough - unless it's a true built-in refrigerator (not counter- or standard-depth). . I didn't realize that was the front door (now that I look at your full-floor layout, I should have realized it b/c it's a "Front Porch")! With that knowledge, then I do want to warn you that putting your Cleanup Zone facing the front entry means that guests coming up the porch to the front door will get a clear view of your Kitchen - in particular, your Cleanup Zone. This is made even more likely by the large window - there is no way anyone is going to not look into your window! Do you want people to look into your window and see the dirty dishes in and/or around the sink? You could put in window treatments to block the view from the bottom half of the window - but that defeats the purpose of having a "view" from the sink. By splitting the window and putting the range on the front wall, you minimize the easy view into the Kitchen and move the dirty dishes to the far right, less noticeable than in the middle. . Regarding your statement, "I am hesitant about facing my neighbors wall when standing at my sink." If the island is your Prep Zone (and you need a water source & decent workspace to make it so), then you will not be spending much time at the cleanup sink - you'll be spending it at the island. Consider this: According to Kitchen work studies, time spent/work done in the Kitchen is split: 70% or more is spent prepping 20% or less is spent cleaning up - which includes clearing the table and counters, wiping down the table and counters, loading the DW, unloading the DW, and handwashing the few items that get handwashed (knives, for example). Only the handwashing and loading the DW are done in front of the sink - so of the 20% or less, even less is spent at the sink. 10% is spent cooking - watching food cook, stirring, adding ingredients. Based on these #s, what Zone should have the "best view"? The Prep Zone! Putting the Prep Zone in the island accomplishes that. The cleanup sink in front of the window is a holdover from before there were automatic DWs - back when people spent a lot more time cleaning up. With the advent of DWs, cleanup time has been significantly reduced. . The real issue here is that for the items you want in your Kitchen, your Kitchen is not deep enough to accommodate an island with seating. Do you really need the island seating w/the Dining Room so close - practically on top of the Kitchen? Eliminate the seating - especially the seats on the back, and things change! I know islands w/seating are all the rage right now, but not all Kitchens can support them. Shoehorning an island in is not the answer. I've been in many Kitchens where an island was shoehorned in b/c the owner just had to have an island, no matter the consequences and found those Kitchens to be difficult to work and move around in - and some have admitted they now regret the island. The other option is to go with a "U". That's what we ended up doing. I also wanted an island when we remodeled, but the folks here were great about pointing out that my Kitchen was just too shallow - I have 11'6" and even without the row of cabinets you have on the back wall, my Kitchen could not handle an island - even without seating! You have 3.5' more, so you can handle one w/o seating, but not one w/seating. Even the finagling I did is not, IMHO, a particularly great option - but I was trying to give you what you want. I suggest you seriously reconsider the "U" and either eliminate the seating a the peninsula or move the Kitchen boundaries farther inside the space so you have plenty of space for your DR. Since this is your only Dining Room, you don't want to skimp on space for it.

It may be worth noting that a primary difference between recognized architectural styles and "farmhouses" is that the recognized styles got that way because there are traditional principles which guide the design and selection of elements--windows, trim, columns, etc., and which characterize one style from another style. Going 'way back, the Greek Orders differed from the Roman Orders in readily visible ways. On the other hand, farmhouses, which by definition, were simple, utilitarian houses erected by families and their friends, who worked on the land. They used construction techniques which were familiar to the builders and readily available materials and elements. I'm not saying one approach is better or worse than the other--simply that they are derived from very different sources, which accounts for many of their differences. That said, in today's housing market many of these distinctions are lost, and/or never known or understood. A "farmhouse" may have Doric columns and a "Greek Revival" may have a badly proportioned front porch supported by 4 X 4 posts. Sir Bannister Fletcher is turning over in his grave. It's an inside architectural joke!

lots of great stuff here for sure. I definitely appreciate all the input and ideas. I dont think we're going to move any windows or doors for this project...too many other things we need to work on to spend money on that. I think even with an imperfect layout this will be the nicest/best kitchen my wife or I have ever had the pleasure of using/enjoying :) I love the creative idea of recessing the fridge (or even pantry) into the wall those extra few inches. Unfortunately thats not going to work in this scenario....there is plumbing in the wall behind the pantry and light switches behind the fridge (for the entryway behind it). I pitched the idea to my wife of putting the fridge where out full-height cabinet is, and having counter space all along the wall with the range (with the range more centered on that wall). I really liked that idea...I wasnt crazy about the big blocky fridge sitting in the middle of the room and right next to our main entry from the deck...but loved the idea of that counter space next to the range, especially for serving big family dinners in our dining room....but she wasnt having it...the big fridge being there was a no-go. I am on the fence about whether the fridge/end of island will be too tight or not. I had been thinking of a single door fridge and it would clear the island by a good 10" I think? Will have to measure that one out. Although we really dont have much storage in our island for dishes etc (we have a trash drawer, a microwave, and a pan drawer under the microwave facing the dishwasher...and then a 36" cabinet on the end of the island, facing the range for pots and pans and whatnot) I still like your suggestion to move the island at least those 3 inches out away from the sink/window wall...it will also visually make the range almost entirely in that 45" walkway which I think is good. I keep going back and forth between we have no storage in our kitchen and we have plenty of storage in our kitchen. When I am thinking we have plenty, I talk to myself about putting that single wall oven in the pantry cabinet....but then I see that the short single wall ovens suck for interior capacity, and think that a 30" high single oven would take up too much space....so I scratch the wall oven idea begrudgingly and then think, well if I think the pantry was big enough for a ~18" tall wall oven, and im not getting any wall oven, maybe I can make the entire pantry just 18" deep instead of 24? Open up that walkway even more (even with moving the island that way another 3". Attaching another rendering with a few tweaks....a different colored island the designer was suggesting and the counter-height cabinet bumped out to be 18" deep to accomodate our toaster oven (per my request). If I had a small, quick heating wall oven, I could probably make do with a regular toaster and go back to a 12" deep counter-height cabinet which I think looks better (and leaves a more usable 12" of counter space in front of it)....
