Hi Cindy, I can't answer your question specifically about Colchicums, but was talking with a 'very' knowledgeable Daff person yesterday and asked the same thing about Daffs... I was told to just cut them with the stem the full length, and write the name on the stem (if there are numerous varieties) and place them in a bucket of water....she uses slightly warm water. She said they should then be inspected, looking for any imperfections in the bloom, and cleaned. Often they will have bugs down inside the bloom. She said she has sometimes washed her daff blooms gently under running water. She said also that one can use an artist brush, or a q-tip to clean them. I think if possible I would pick some today that are not fully in bloom, and then pick more then Thurs or Thurs eve...and clean and prep them. The ones that you pick today, might be the ones that will be near perfect on Fri. Good luck and please report back to us on the show and how it went. Where are you located? It looks like Colchicum foliage. This is the right time to transplant them. They can still get established for the winter, and the leaves should be back next spring. Don't give up hope if they don't bloom next fall, they may skip a year.
