Since it is marketed as a very compact form, only getting about 3' wide, planting 2' away from the foundation is fine.

Are you sure this is suited to your zone? It is only rated to zone 5. If it does prove to be root hardy, I'm pretty sure you will experience a complete dieback of any topgrowth over winter.

Sounds like a rebloomer worth trying in SE MI. The old stems from 2022 will most likely die unless winter protected. BJ only gets about two feet high and that is good. In order for rebloomers to bloom from the new spring 2023 stems by late summer/fall 2023, those new spring 2023 stems need to quickly get tall and old enough to develop flower buds and then to open the buds by the end of summer. Depending on when the plant breaks dormancy in SE MI, there is usually a limited amount of time so short rebloomer cultivars may be more bloom reliable in SE MI. Do "anything" that will promote their quick growth: protect BJ's new 2023 tender stems from late frosts (the date varies by city but in SE MI that can be as late as the 3rd-4th weeks of May); mulch 3-4" past the drip line in summer 2022; maintain the soil as evenly moist as you can during the growing season (you may need to test the soil almost daily 6-8am at a depth of about 4" during the summer and only water deeply -around 8"- if it feels dry or almost dry); provide as much direct sun as practical while still being morning sun; use a slow release, high phosphorus fertilizer after the danger of frost has passed in spring (mid-May?). The last application of a slow release fertilizer should be around three months before your average date of first frost. Good luck.
