Thought I am not a fan of oak cabinets, yours appear to be well made. I might simply consider using Briwax Liming Wax to update the appearance. The mirror and the sconces don't seem to coordinate with your sink and faucets. The lifted edge on the mirror is really not attractive in this bathrooom The round mirror reinforces the shape of your sink.

Thank you for brainstorming ideas to jumpstart planning changes for my bathroom. There is nothing wrong with the tile, I just don’t like the color of tile and I believe a whiter bathroom is more of my style. The exhaust fan has recently been replaced to better control the moisture, so it is not going to change. I like idea of a feature wall behind the tub. The bar light over the mirror seems off to me because of the angle. Would sconces mounted on the mirror help to distract from lack of symmetry?

You could do a removeable wallpaper, as RL shows above. Or if you want a paint color, BM Swiss Coffee might be one to sample. Alternatively, a light sage color may be something you could also consider. To be honest, though - me, myself and I would not paint, nor would I wallpaper. There is no way that I would spend money (and more importantly time & energy) on those things - when that is absolutely the landlord’s job. The landlord should be the one fixing that torn off molding issue - and painting the bathroom. Also, warm colors are back - and since I prefer warm colors, I do not see an issue with the current wall color. It works with the space. It’s a rental, and in this case I would also not spend money for a new mirror and/or sconces; and I would also not alter the landlord’s mirror. ALL that I would do - is “maybe” do some spackle around the window frame (if not - I would just pretend that I’m living in a Greek ruin - and that would work fine for me, too); and mainly, I would hang an over-sized bamboo or woven wood shade. I would also spend on my own faucet (keep the landlord’s in a closet to give back when I move out). Other than that - I would install a dimmer switch for lights, if there is not one there, and buy a simple white shower curtain (and I’d probably just use a couple of 99 cent white plastic liners - I am serious). And I would then splurge on super-luxury towels in white and gold (and you could really do just about any color towels you like in this bathroom). Plus, i’d bring in a succulent plant or two. And that would be IT for me.

Paint walls solid white or very light color - get rid of wallpaper. I would not swap the toilet as older toilets were smaller. Replacing with a modern unit of any style will take up more room. The wall mounts don't save room and put stress on the wall. The shutters are gorgeous so keep! You simply cannot buy shutters with thin slats like that anymore. Remove the "secret" door and glass shower door. Simply use a thin white curtain. If the shower will not be used the space could be converted into a storage closet or combination of sink and shelves. Change floor tiles to white or very light color. Your sink is adorable and unique. If it is functional I would keep. The towel bar could be swapped with clear lucite or thin chrome bar. Remove wall basket. That space could be plain wall, a piece of artwork, or a bathroom towel holder (clear lucite or chrome). We remodeled our small home bath and are familiar with brightening up such rooms and maximizing space.
