Too much light trace!!! HID lights are powerful---I've used them to grow orchids that need full-sun conditions. The first sign of sunburn is a reddish flush, then you'll get scorched brown patches, then it kind of turns to ash. You can get good books about what plants to grow under those kinds of intense lights, or there is a good "growing under lights" forum on GW. Most hoyas won't be able to tolerate the intensity of HIDs---you would need to move them several more *feet* from the lights at the very least.

PROPER WATERING insert finger to second knuckle.. and water when hot or dry ... when the soil is hot.. it will be dry in a day or two ... water deeply.. through what you know to be the root zone.. and then do NOT water again until it nearly dries ... since this is all about your soil type.. it is more of an art.. rather than me telling to do it every third day [a science] ... remove all competition in a ring at least one foot beyond the diameter of the tree ... and add 2 to 4 inches of mulch [depending on type] ... but leaving and inch or two from the trunk bare ... mulch cools the soil.. reduces water loss ... and reduces weeds and grass .... water very late into fall .. insuring that it all drains away before the soil freezes if that happens ... most pines favor dry conditions.. but transplants need MOISTURE [rather than a swamp] and DRAINAGE ... to establish the root mass to support what is above ... once that occurs.. they should be basically free range ... needing nothing more from you .. including no food/fert .. unless a soil test indicates something is lacking from your soil .... you are going to have try real hard to kill most pines ... but if you do .. blame it on the guy who sold it to you.. lol ... ken

Maybe you have grubs, blubs, tickers, tackers or bluebubble mackers. (I'm being a wise-crack although grubs is possible, but rather unlikely) Probably a good assumption of size jean. Keen... however, brandi has been watering her flowers which makes me assume she's a gardener! He who waters regardless of years of knowlege = gardener. Seems to me like you're doing everything right! The main reason some keep them as the same species is that in habitats with intermediate nutrient status, you get intermediate trees - with enough searching, it is probably possible to get a full range of variation from pure Baldcypress (B) at one extreme, to pure Pondcypress (P) at the other. But such a situation can just as easily be ascribed to interspecific hybridisation, as to lack of speciation. How they would evolve with change in habitat isn't easy to tell - as you suspect, a several generation experiment has not been performed. Anyone with a few hundred (few thousand?) years to spare is welcome to try ;-) What would be worth trying is some genetic analysis of the two across their ranges - if they are separate species, then a P from North Carolina should be genetically closer to a P from Louisiana, than it is to a B from North Carolina. If however it can be shown that B and P from North Carolina are each other's closest relatives, and ditto B and P from Louisiana, then they would be better treated as one species.
