Weekend Trivia ~ Saturday
Comments (21)OK, that was tougher to give clues for than I thought it would be....any my drawing really is awful - it seems so easy!! OK, so #1 says Town is Hostile. #2 is church or religious people. #3 says Main street is good for begging. An ethical code was created by Tourist Union #63 during its 1889 National Hobo Convention in St. Louis Missouri.[ This code was voted upon as a concrete set of laws to govern the Nation-wide Hobo Body; it reads this way: Decide your own life, don't let another person run or rule you. When in town, always respect the local law and officials, and try to be a gentleman at all times. Don't take advantage of someone who is in a vulnerable situation, locals or other hobos. Always try to find work, even if temporary, and always seek out jobs nobody wants. By doing so you not only help a business along, but ensure employment should you return to that town again. When no employment is available, make your own work by using your added talents at crafts. Do not allow yourself to become a stupid drunk and set a bad example for locals' treatment of other hobos. When jungling in town, respect handouts, do not wear them out, another hobo will be coming along who will need them as badly, if not worse than you. Always respect nature, do not leave garbage where you are jungling. If in a community jungle, always pitch in and help. Try to stay clean, and boil up wherever possible. When traveling, ride your train respectfully, take no personal chances, cause no problems with the operating crew or host railroad, act like an extra crew member. Do not cause problems in a train yard, another hobo will be coming along who will need passage through that yard. Do not allow other hobos to molest children, expose all molesters to authorities, they are the worst garbage to infest any society. Help all runaway children, and try to induce them to return home. Help your fellow hobos whenever and wherever needed, you may need their help someday. If present at a hobo court and you have testimony, give it. Whether for or against the accused, your voice counts! Interesting how organized they were (are?) They seemed honourable folk. So, as to stars: As near as I can tell, for Annette, Bobbie and Cynthia: For Tm - excellent deduction: Here are a few more symbols for your amusement. They were made with chalk or coal, whatever was to hand. Thanks for playing - see you all next week. Nancy - who is back to work today :(...See MoreDinky "nobody is coming, anyhow..." 2020 Christmas trees
Comments (91)Yes that’s the problem with losing Christmas ornaments… For the most part it’s the memories. I downsized my ornaments this year and as well both of my sons had their own personal collections because I gave them each an ornament each year from the time they were born. Plus a few extra little sentimental ones that were always on our tree. So they had a starter collection. It’s so lovely now when I see my ornaments of many years, hanging on their trees! It’s very sweet. They are both in their 30s and this year I have one last ornament to give them and then that will be it. They need to make their own memories and collections....See MoreWhat, nobody planting garlic this year?
Comments (58)I was delayed a bit by a cold snap, but got my garlic in on the 8th, about a week later than I usually plant here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwestern Virginia.. Planted 180 Russian Red, 135 Music, and 135 Estonian Red. Today I will water again and then spread a dried grass clipping mulch. They are fertilized with organic Harmony 5-4-3 at a rate of 100 lbs elemental N per acre, tilled in right before planting. I always get top growth through the mulch, in spite of my relatively late planting habits. The plant greens usually stop growing at about 4-6" and will get a bit gnarly with the cold of winter, but always recover by spring with no issues. Last year we hit -5°F one night and still the garlic crop recovered, as it has for decades. My heavy mulch may help the bulbs, but the greens are exposed....See MoreWeekend Music (FNM): Solitary; Alone, Lonely, Only...Part II
Comments (32)(Hard to find much on this — ) BROKEN GLASS (Claudia Schmidt) I was walking through the broken glass last night and thought of you, and I wondered where your reckless ways had brought you to? My memories of you whorled me back to boilin' blood and wrath, and I wonder if you've stumbled on a lighter path? Did you go out to the desert with the sun hot overhead? Did the dry and the dusty heat make you wish you were dead? Or, did the stark and the open spaces ease your urge to roam? Did it make you feel at last like you were home? Or, did you go out to the woods where the silver poplars sing? Did the quiet rustlin' take away the city's sting? Did the white birds like suspended lightning strike the autumn glow, and touch your heart with tenderness so you could grow? I was walking through the broken glass last night and thought of you, and I wondered where your reckless ways had brought you to? A fiery mass of untapped power surgin' in your breast, I hope it found its way outside so you could rest! Or, did you go up to the mountains where the air is clear and cold? Did they give you back your tears; save you from growing old? As hands and feet fought gravity all up the ancient wall, I wonder, did you lose your ancient urge to fall? The last time I saw you, you were strung dangerously high. All your movements stiff and frightened and you could not cry; suspicious of an honest mile, and looking for a fight; the lonesome street your home, your only friend the night. Now, wherever you may be tonight, I hope you're pleased and calm; that the air around you soothes you like a holy balm; that your lonely anger hasn't turned your insides inside out; that you found the place some of us still dream about. I was dancing through the broken glass last night and thought of you, and I wondered where your reckless ways had brought you to? All my memories of you whorled me back to boilin' blood and wrath, and I wonder if you've stumbled on a lighter path? Oh I hope, perhaps, you have stumbled on a lighter path! And, a live performance at a small venue (accoustics of that venue are lousy, but Claudia’s spirit is strong. I love this song and it played a lot in the early 1980s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hdmp_XuSC00...See MoreUser
