Window treatment advice for 4/0 window grids

Hello,

We renovated a few years ago and I still have yet to get window treatments because I just can't make a decision. We opted for the windows that have 4/0 window grid panels. I'm finding it hard to choose because I find it distracting from the outside if the grids are covered. It seems to take away from the simplicity of the windows. Has anyone else had this issue? How did you resolve it? Also I don't want the back of the shade to be distracting with strings and fabric seen from the outside. I do like the top up top down wooden blinds but worry the cleaning of them will become an issue. We have a black lab who sheds like crazy and has left his mark on all things white. Any suggestions would be appreciated. House pic for reference. Thank you!

What do you need from the window coverings ? I really dislike wooden blinds but I need to see the interiors to advise what to use for what purpose. IMO different spaces need different window covering often So a bit mor einfo and some interior pics please .

Sorry, I don't see what the grids have to do with the appropriate window treatment.

You might want blackout coverings for bedrooms and nothing in the living room.

Just make sure they appear neutral from the outside.

You can mount a long rod near the ceiling with dummy side panels on the outside, then outside mount wooden shades butted together near the rod to fill in the gap between the window top and the rod. I personally like top down bottom up cellular shades. They are very insulating and can give you additional privacy if necessary. They come in lots of colors, translucency and textures and are super easy to install. You may want to post your inquiry on the design forum.

Sorry I was away on the road for the past few days - the window is pretty big (72 x 72) and is only 1/2 feet over the floor. I do need privacy as my house sits on a slope and the house on the back sort of looks over mine (across two backyards). I am now debating between vertical blinds versus horizonal blinds - not cozy, I know but easier to maintain hopefully. But my concern is with horizontal blinds, it's going to be pretty wide (72") and will the blinds sag over time? Is it practical to have two (left and right side) horizontal blinds? But how would I install the blinds (plan to DIY) given there is no divider frame between the two sides and the window frame is metal? Also, will the two sides of the blinds constantly clash into each other? Thanks!

As for window treatments, if you're wanting to match them to walls, then they should either be the same color as the walls or the woodwork. Otherwise, pick a color you like. i.e. if you're putting any decorative accents around, then pick a fabric in that color tone.

Pictures of houses on decorating websites are taken with window coverings either pulled up or away, but IRL, if you drive down your street you'll see people have them partially or completely up or down depending on the time of day, which direction the windows face, etc. Since BHG isn't coming by to photograph my house anytime soon I don't worry too much about how it looks from the street. The only thing I think is important is to have white lining in everything that faces the street at least, and it's a rule of my HOA as well. It's OK to have fuschia curtains if that fits the room, but you don't want that color visible from outside.

What you choose should be at least in part based on the style of your house inside, which room it is and which direction the windows face. You will find someone on this forum to advocate for every single type of window covering there is. Not everyone likes the same thing. To get over the decision paralysis, it might help to just take one room at a time. Can you post a picture of the room you want to do first?
