Peonie buds
Comments (3)I've never heard of pinching back buds. I have a young 3 year old peony which came up with a huge number of flowers this 3rd year. Thank goodness because I got this plant on those end of season type sales. it looked like it was dying.. so I took pity on it. Now it rewards me with a terrific spray of flowers. I also purchased a brand new peony as a root earlier this year. To my surprise it actually gave me a bud this year - and it's beautiful. I am looking foward to it's next show. ianna...See MoreCan ones transplant a Peony as long as the bud hasn't bloomed
Comments (4)Thanks! No reason these can't wait until fall...I actually moved one I purchased a few years ago that was to close to a walnut tree(before I learned what our backyard problem that caused many things to die) we hardscape a as well...and I transplanted the Peony that I had purchased in a nursery. It was barely a plant...poking out of the ground and had never bloomed. Now it is thriving and has several buds. So since the peonies have buds...do I cut them back in the fall before I move them then? They aren't hurting anything where they are planted...other than they get barely any sun....See MoreTree Peony with herbaceous peony buds growing
Comments (3)Break the shoots off in the short term. Long term solution should involve increasing the depth that the herbaceous root stock resides. You can do this by either increasing the grade by ~2" or digging up and replanting ~2" deeper. The tree peony will begin to grow its own roots and the herbaceous stock will be deep enough that it doesn't send up shoots....See MoreQuestion on Peony Buds
Comments (2)I'd say be patient. Your neighbor's yard may have different light conditions that yours. I have several peonies that are fully opened and several just starting to open and a few still have tight bud balls. My neighbor down the street, with a bit less sun than me, has only tight buds. Her flowers usually bloom a week later than mine. Relax and enjoy! Judye BTW, the ants aren't an issue....See Moreforever_a_newbie_VA8
