Linda, Thanks so much for the quick response. I'm going to save that information so I don't forget for the next time. Just after I posted my help message, the butterfly was starting to emerge! ACK! The chrysalis was, of course, laying down. The butterfly acted like it couldn't get out and I very gently pried away a little of the one side and then it could get the rest of the way out. I quickly put my finger in front of it and it grabbed onto it, thank goodness. That was nerve-racking! Why do I go through all this for these butterflies?! Any normal person would think I have no life that I'm here watching for butterflies to eclose. The butterfly appears to be okay. I let it hang on my hand awhile and took some pictures but have to wait for my daughter to put them on the computer because she's the one that does that part. After I was done, I let it grab onto a piece of screen and put it on top of the container again like it was to begin with. I was going to keep checking back here to see what to do but it just happened so fast. I felt like I was in the car with some pregnant lady on the way to the hospital and had to deliver the baby. lol I know it's "just" a butterfly but it made me nervous not knowing exactly what to do. Geez! Well, I like your idea better, and if that happens again anytime, which I'm sure it will, then I'll know what to do without having heart palpitations. Ha. Just keep it as seen in the picture. You might also want to drive a small stake next to it and tie it to the stake. Tomato branches are tough even with 1/4 of it attached can survive. Sey
