Finally Some Rain in Austin!

After 51 days of no measurable rain and 66 days of 100 degrees or over temps, we got over an inch of rain this afternoon. It’s also 76 degrees, and our chances for more rain over the next week are good. So grateful!

Excellent news!

We've barely had rain all summer in Denver although our temps have not been as high as yours. We finally had about 36 hours worth of rain last week, it was welcome and a little odd. I was thinking of all the baby animals who were born in the spring and had never felt more than a little rain.

Problem up here is we're going on 3 years of drought and the soil soaks up the H2O before it turns into runoff into the lakes! I think our Lake Sonoma is at about 60%. We're in better shape than surrounding counties! My well is holding OK. We have it monitored every 3 months due to a new casino going in less than 2 miles away =( So far it hasn't dropped! Nancy

Beth ... We have had three days of steady drizzling rain. I am on the other side of the valley and north of you, so it should be coming your way. The good news is that we got snow at the higher elevations. Yes, my garden is finally soaked. The fir trees and all the things I haven't watered are looking soooooo good. I cannot believe I have been out several times this winter watering roses while wearing snow boots and multiple layers of clothing. Now, I get to take some time off from that and stay inside. Maryl-hoping you get clouds with rain in them!! My rain came just in time for the rebloom scapes. For me Voila Francos is very white-ish. That photo is exactly what I see but of course in other gardens and soil maybe it is different. Nancy, I agree with you about Mean Green. It has so many buds and gives those amazing clumps every day and yes it does multiply like crazy. We are in an official drought out here. The ocean storm that was supposed to swirl it's way over land never did show up except as great surf on the beaches but it is finally cool enough to live without the A/C. I am so looking forward to September.

We got a little rain -- but a system in the Gulf is making it possible that we could get more over the coming week. It has been so hot and so dry for far too long.

We have had an unusual early cool spell with 50’s at night this whole past week or more ! We are expecting rain at some point but we have had plenty so that’s not an issue. glad you are getting a reprieve!

Glad you finally got some rain! Here in BC we could really use some. We've been breaking heat records for a week now and it's been hot. We had a really late start to the forest fire season due to an unseasonable cool and wet spring so while it's beginning to kick up hopefully it won't be as bad as the last couple of years. And due to our heat dome last year resulting in a number of heat-related deaths, communities have been proactive in setting up misting stations and cooling stations with water and wifi.

Hooray! My brother is an Austinite, and my youngest nephew loved the rain today. At the ripe old age of four he had no recollection of what heavy rain was actually like.

An inch of rain on parched ground just runs off, moistens it a bit, might flood. Hopefully it was moistened enough to allow the next rain to penetrate.

The report I read said 1/10 of an inch in Austin from 4 to 6 PM CDT, but that might depend on the neighborhood. Houston was listed as having about half an inch during this period, although it was still raining.

Hurricane season is just around the corner, however.

More rain in Houston today (we are around 2 inches for late yesterday and today). And a system brewing in the Gulf. It's close enough to the coast that it shouldn't be terrible -- for most people -- as long as it keeps moving. Unlike the heat we had for so long. Please, keep moving.

Austin and other parts look to gain more rain from the approaching system. They say the coming week or so could have a big impact on the drought -- maybe bust it in some areas, and it's already helping the temps. We were 20 degrees cooler today than the last couple of days -- also a bit wet. The moving truck with DS' stuff came and unloaded today. Started out great, but we all got pretty wet before it was over. No one was complaining -- just grabbed something to dry off the things going into storage.
