Daylilies with best bud count, branching this season
Comments (61)I didn't keep bud counts on all of mine but here are some clump shots of my most prolific bloomers. This first one may be a mislabeled seedling. One of the local hybridizers used to line out his seedlings in the same plot as my display garden. He did have an introduction out of 'Open Hearth' and I half suspect this may be a sibling. It was a real wowser though. I did count the buds on 'Desperado Love'. One scape had 32 buds, the rest counted in the high 20s. This is only a two year old plant in my garden. It blooms ML here and is still putting on a show. This one was sold to me as 'Mariachi' but I've learned it is actually 'Mariachi1' as the first "Mariachi" was a diploid that was never released. 'Mariachi1' is a tet. Take a look at this 2yr plant's branching & bloom. 'Mary Todd' is a real bloomer here too. Check out the scape on 'Mexican Maiden' 'Nile Crane' was absolutely gorgeous. Always a favorite performer here, 'Wild Horses' had a long bloom season And finally, my seedling 2007-048-003 (Jennifer Trimmer x Maltese Falcon) had what I would call 4-way branching (though when I asked the garden judges at regional to explain how they count branches they would have called this at least 6-way) and a budcount of 25 in its maiden bloom....See MoreBest Patterned Daylilies of the 2018 Season
Comments (26)All the patterned daylilies posted are amazing. I especially like Bow Tie Affair and Stenciled Infusion. Karen, your seedlings are lovely. I hope they have good plants under those beautiful flowers. Here are my best patterns. Geometric Wizard continues to be one of my favorites. It does very well here for a southern-bred daylily. Curious Cutie is from the same hybridizer and I have often wondered if they share genetics. Its biggest fault is that it turns to mush in rain, but Geometric Wizard does not. I Don't Kid is doing well here. The third flower in the background is Purple Maze which is very similar in looks. I love the delicate coloring on Ink and Pink. Four Beasts in One is not well established yet, but I like the looks of it. Oceans Eleven has been in the garden for many years. I love the eye. It often has a metallic look. Here is Get Jiggy in our garden. This is the best pattern we have seen, but we haven't seen it often. Of course, if patterns really show best in cooler weather, we aren't going to see many in west central Indiana. I know I have gone over my limit, but I have to post a pattern we found in a seedling. I didn't expect it as neither parent has a pattern. Nancy...See MoreBest Purple Daylilies of 2021
Comments (37)Houzz does not seem to want to post my pictures, maybe it will let me just write a little bit I have All of My Love to You, can't wait it mine looks like that, Debra. I have debated before on getting Reckless Girls but always talk myself out of it, but what a clump! Bluegrass Shadows looks so pretty, but I think I heard it does not grow that well? Love your Laura Harwood, Sherry. Mine did well this year, 2nd year I think for me. Nancy, Absolute Ripper is another I keep talking myself out of, but regretting that now. Man Eating Bat looks great Kate, I have always liked the look of Larry's Obsession, but it died for me and I have not tried it again. I got Love Struck this fall, hope mine survives. Garden Butterfly is gorgeous Celeste, Thunder Glow was on my wish list, but you are not the only one who mentioned splotches, so it quickly came off. Love Olly Olly Oxen free and Claudine's Charm. Claudine died last year, I may replace that on. I think a big mole dug under it. Brad, Kirsten's Corsage always looks good for you, and I like Liberty Banner David, Mystery of the Ages is gorgeous I will see if Houzz will let me post a few pictures by editing Back Scratcher has done well for me Blue Voodoo has done really well, expecially since it is really crowded by another plant. I know I took better pictures than this one Enduring Freedom always does well, occasionally it splotches but not often since I moved it Coach's Magic Man has increased well in its 2nd season, bloomed and rebloomed both years I have had it. This will b e nice when it becomes a nice clump Filled to Overflowing almost died a couple of years ago, went down to 1 fan, but is a nice clump this year and bloomed over 6 weeks Westbourne Chip off the Old Block is as great as Kay promised, bloomed for almost 2 months with rebloom Green Rainbow Kierabel is a lighter purple with deeper purple in it, so I may have it in the wrong category. It is a great plant though, has multiplied really well and bloomed great Westbourne REvivals does well Make it Snappy did great this year...See MoreResilient daylilies this past season
Comments (9)Sherry, I will be praying for a successful and safe surgery and speedy recovery for you. Let us know how you are doing. Our season was not stellar--too hot and too little rain. The early season was actually worse than the later season. Still, I found several that performed well. Some of these were newly planted and some have been in place for a while. Vision Seeker was planted in 2021 and seems to be doing well. I like the big bold flowers. Thunderbird Dancer was planted just this spring (early) and just kept on growing. Swingin' Miss was planted in 2021 and gave us many of the cutest little flowers this seaon. Those lavender tags are hybridizing tags--sort of ruins the picture, doesn't it. I am really liking this little flower--Siloam Shocker. Phill Warbass has the Rose F. Kennedy look but is much taller. It actually is an offspring of Emerald Starburst. I bought Mardi Gras Indian for Bob and he loves it. It's the most intense, brightest color in the garden. It looks like a good grower and is increasing well. I have been enjoying some Bret Clement intros like this one, It Stops at Garage Sales. It has tall scapes and lots of large flowers. Impassioned continues to impress me. It blooms late registered as mid-late but usually blooms late here) and has nice tall scapes. (My pictures of it always have the gator in them.) You might expect the last one to be a good grower because it is a Stout winner. We haven't found all Stout winners to be good performers for us so it's nice when one lives up to the hype. This is Heavenly United We Stand. My only disappointment this season is I couldn't get it to set seed. That's all for me. Nancy...See Moresherrygirl zone5 N il
