To me that counter looks way too busy to be paired with rustic cabinets. Also, there is a lot of pink in it. The lighting in slab warehouses is not the same as what you will have at home. Are you prepared for a lot of pink? My brother bought a house that has beautiful brown wood cabinets, but the counter is a granite with a lot of pink. I don't think they thought they were buying pink counters.

Black granite or soapstone would probably work better for you.

Such a beautiful slab! You will definitely want to keep the fixtures and backslash simple but be sure it compliments the countertops. A backsplash that is sand/neutral colored and has little texture would be nice as well as subtle bronze hardware to compliment those darker streaks in the slab while also complimenting the reddish streaks.

Very cool stone, like art. Can you share an inspo picture of your goal? Do you have a large island that shows off the stone...it won't look like that if it is cut into perimeter countertops.

“Busy” is subjective. I think that slab would look beautiful with rustic cabinets. Since this is your kitchen, it only matters if you like them together. As for the backsplash, a subway tile that matches one of the dominate colors in the stone would look nice. We need to see the stone installed in your kitchen to give you the best advice though.

Pick one star of the kitchen….the granite with several colors going on or the knotty wood cabinets. Then keep the other one simple. And what is your flooring?

If you’ve already put money down on the cabinets and stone, then your option for a backsplash is simple tile with a color that complements one in the stone. It’s the last decision- after installation and lighting.

If you haven’t put down a deposit for the cabinets or granite, you may want to change one since both of them can be busy. A plain cabinet with that stone makes your countertop the star. Conversely, a knotty wood kitchen needs a plainer countertop since those cabinets are the star.

When we shop for kitchens, there are a lot of decisions and it’s easy to “fall in love” with things that may not work as well together in real life as in your imagination. Years ago this happened to my sister and she was really mad at me when I told her the backsplash tiles took her kitchen over the top into way-too-busy territory. She changed the backsplash and then thanked me for stopping her from taking away the attention from her stunning mahogany cabinets and beautiful granite countertop. Sometimes, something’s gotta go.

I would keep that slab of stone in a heartbeat. It’s glorious!
