@kandrewspa here are my cabinets. This color is called “Dove,” which is an off white (but reads white), but brighter white cabinets are also a possibility. It’s between those two tones. I welcome any suggestions for flooring color etc. My contractor will be installing the floors first, so that why I’m scrambling to select floors now. Regardless of what countertop I end up with, I feel like I’m limited (for the reasons discussed above) to a neutral tone anyway. I’ll post pics of the countertops I’m considering.

Don't do fake wood next to the pine (and keep the pine!). If you can't match it, tile, tile look, or something like Marmoleum or cork in a coordinating color would be acceptable. Wood of a different type stained to match could be okay with a clever pattern change. Look at really old floor styles for inspiration, where you might have inset borders around and between rooms. It can look good.

What about a flooring a little darker than what you currently have posted? Perhaps something like you see in this recent design we did for a client:

Update: we decided to just go ahead and install the floor, hoping that by culling some boards we would have a floor that we can live with even if the tone isn’t exactly what we thought we were getting. After opening several more boxes, it seemed like the ratio of light to darker boards was about even, and we actually liked the look of the lighter planks better. This is where we’re at after day one. We like it a lot! There are some planks that read pinker than others, but I don’t think it screams pink at all. Someone above mentioned that the floor will likely morph in color over time. We knew that was true with maple, but didn’t realize that white oak would do the same. That makes us feel even better about what the floor will look like in the future, more light brown tones. Thanks SO much for all of your suggestions and feedback, it truly helped us feel less desperate and more confident that this floor might just work out after all.
