Kitchens Design Dilemma

what countertop and cabinet to pick

Hi all, need done help choosing countertops and cabinets . Locked on a high polish swirly porcelain island (see pics from showroom installation) and want to choose a quartz countertop cum backsplash and cabinetry color. Was. Initially thinking silestone eternal calacatta gold for counter but the grey veining and more importantly the bright white base didn’t seem to go with the island so dropped that idea. What kind of quartz should I choose? Specific brand and pattern names welcome
Trying to create a modern open European kitchen look here . For cabinetry I know white and grey will look good but I have too much of those in my home and wanted to try something different ( see adjacent family room pic) . Any suggestions? Cashmere or basalto any good ? Which color family and how to create contrasts

The designer had to leave midway so it’s us having to make decisions and don’t have time to hire a designer at this stage. Flooring is existing one so no change there ( see pic of fireplace for flooring reference) Cabinets decision is the main so looking for inputs from creative folks here.

Don't waste your money on waterfall ends for the island. You can't even see them from your main living areas and most fabricators don't have the skill to do a perfect installation.

Is there no other place for the large TV hanging off the fireplace?

I can't wait to see your kitchen! Do you have any inspiration photos or photos of your cabs, pulls etc? I would love to see which pulls you are choosing, I almost went with Schaubs white bronze, but they were a bit slim for my drawers. Do you already have your table? I'm attempting something similar but with modern, french country and glam thrown in. It's difficult to balance it all without going too far in one direction and having one element look out of place. Post photos!

kelleg69, I really like that quartz! I just looked it up and of course the nearest distributor is 3 hours away in Dallas (same as the Quartzmasters). I guess I'm going to just have to make another trip. I don't know if the Chinese produced quartz uses the Breton technology everyone seems to talk about on this website. So I don't know what happens if they don't. I would go for a solid gray, I think, lighter than your floors. also, switch location of dishwasher and sink -- you need a landing spot for hot pans next to the stove, as well as prep space between sink and stove.

I have a question for you guys. Is it too outdated to have a cointibayoon do the quartz for the badksplash(only the 4inches) without having to add any other back splash? I worry about making my kitchen Look too busy and having a hard time matching colors , so i was hoping to just install a quartz counter top with that extra 4 inch lip without doing any other backsplash . That is assuming my counter top isn’t too bland . Also, can I get away with a gray? What about the Silestone calacatta gold ? Are the speckled quartz outdated ? Thanks! My floor has to be changed because it’s got a lot of holes and pkaces that are showing the underneath black rubber. it also has stains . My dream is to have white cabinets , a Taupe counter top(warmer gray like), and wood floors . If calacatta gold form Silestone , Bianco drift from Caesarstone , cambria Torquay , or viatera “sol” would work with white or warm cabinets , I’d pick one of those maybe. It’s a small kitchen, and I don’t have a huge budget .. but I do want to make a big enough change beginning with the counter tops that were never sealed properly, flooring, (and our back wall behind the sink that needs to be replaced ) . This design is more functional with ovens where refrigerator is located and refrigerator on the right end of the pantry cabinets. That way cooktop is accessible to ovens. You are spending a fortune on materials so not getting professional help on the design, which comes free at most cabinet dealers when you buy cabinets from them doesn't make sense. You have more choices that you think within your budget and making the best design choices is what makes the project sensible. Alot needs to be fixed here.

With the dollars required for a project of this type I do not think you can afford not to hire a KD.
