Yes, they had to sand it lightly and then carefully remove all dust and residue. I don’t get why you are buying this flooring to begin with though. I would never have bought it if I had known how poor the finish was and that the company didn’t care or stand behind their product. In the end, we spent much more than we would have if we had just bought a better product. There are quality wood and engineered floors out there. Why don’t you give them your business? I posted my experinece so that people could learn from my mistakes, not repeat them. 🙁

i know this is an old thread but i was hoping Jenn A. or Sarah might answer. We have the same issue with red oak upstairs and on the stairs and white oak downstairs. Our white oak was damaged and has to be replaced so we were hoping to go with a lighter (non red/non pink) stain on all the floors. We’ve been told by our flooring guy that its impossible to match the red oak and white oak to be close enough in color to look good if we go lighter. We’re thinking we’ll have to replace the white oak with red oak so there will be continuity. How do your floors look between the two floors..is it a jarring difference between the red and white oak or is the difference ok in your opinion? Thank you..losing sleep over this decision…

There's conflicting information here. I come to these forums in attempt to educate and help folks understand so they are able to make their own decisions rather than just telling them what they should do. My elementary teachers ( 2 sisters teaching grades 1-6) taught their students far more than the 3 Rs. One of those was to remain students our entire lives and I'm still following their advice. This conversation might be the quintessential opportunity to do both teach and be taught. G & S Floor said, " Northern Oak is mostly used in the Northeast. I believe it has less heartwood in it." I have been lead to believe by US Forest and Hardwood Mfgrs Assoc that Northern Oak has more heartwood and tighter rings due to slower growth in colder climate that if grown in the warmer South. Same tree species grown under different conditions. Due to grading higher,the wood is imported and demands higher price in the South where Oak is plentiful but lower grade. Will you cite sources that support your statement ? Woodco said " We use Appalachian Oak for our white oak flooring. Appalachian is a prime quality white oak!" Both sources cited above classify Appalachian Oak in the Red Oak group. Various Red Oaks grown in or near Appalachian region. Will you cite your sources that classify it as White Oak?
