Hanging a smaller mirror over a large flat wall mirror?
Comments (7)"Could you frame out the larger mirror in wood trim and stain to match new mirror so that it would be a mirror then a mirror?" ThatÂs what I was thinking about doing. I wanted to solve the technical problems first, of how to hang, and the aesthetic issue, of would it look right in the first place. I stained other oak shelves in the room to match the vanity, so could do that. (The craftsman mirror is not oak, like the vanity, though: I think it is rubberwood. If I framed the big one I would have to use oak, but could probably get it to match well enough.) Assuming the cables are attached to screws in the studs over the big mirror, I could conceal that, maybe, by having the wood trim on the big mirror pass over that, with a small hollow in the back. The big mirror goes almost wall to wall on the sides, and right up to the round base of the light fixture above, so if I framed it out, whatever I did would have to float on the surface of the mirror and be adhered with glue....See Moremirrored medicine cabinet with electric receptacle for plug
Comments (1)It's quite easy to cut a hole in a wood cabinet to add the receptacle; I had my contractor do that and he didn't complain. I'll link to one of my favorite bathroom threads. If you scroll down, you can see that they did this with plain medicine cabinets from Home Depot, and it looks great. Comments (28)Artlover - I really like your faucet. This may be a silly question but does the stopper part in the sink come with the faucet? Mine's chrome there too. Maybe I will do something like that. Mjlb - Thanks for the mock up pic. How would I get the cord/chain to drape like that? Caroleoh - Ceilings are 8'. Good suggestion about moving the mirror maybe with the pedestal. I just thought how I already have that large mirror above the buffet though. I've been trying to think of another place for it. Would it look odd in the hall with other art? Do people put mirrors in halls? Alright, alright. I knew before I posted this the mirror was too small. It's ok but the whole look together isn't working for me and I wanted some additional feedback. I think the shelf would help visually fix it somewhat but I still don't think it would make me love it so I might as well not spend the money and end up "fixing" it a three times. So first things first I'm going to figure out the paint. Which here's some more pics of samples I already had. Left BM Jamesboro Gold, Right BM Blair Gold, Bottom is the same as before Duron Tobacco Road. I don't think any of these are IT but I like the darker look. I was thinking maybe SW Mannered Gold or SW Chamois or BM Mystic Gold? The color strips showing are the Mannered, Chamois and Relic Bronze. What do you think? Should I stay in this color direction? Sometime real soon we're suppose to have a sidewalk and some landscaping done. During that time there will be an electrician here to wire up a pole lamp outside and a fountain (I did manage to convince DH) I could probably arrange to have him hook a different fixture on the wall while he's here. IF I lost the lights and kept the electrical stuff there at the ceiling is there any type of light/chandy that would work there? Or am I destined to have a light bar? The mirror is for sure going somewhere in this house. I still do like the lights but again this set up isn't making me gitty. Ha told you I'm fickle....See MoreBathroom vanity area questions.
Comments (2)You have a lot of options. You can install a narrower framed mirror above the sink area, then install lights on each side. Outlets can go either above or within the backsplash. Another option is to do a large mirror with the outlets on top, along with your lights. My previous MB had a large mirror above a 6' vanity. Both lights and outlets were on top of the mirror. Another design would be to add a small cabinet on one, or each, end and put your outlets there.... As for hiding the outlets with a moveable mirror, I think it would not make for easy access to the outlets. Especially if you're going to use them for charging toothbrushs, shavers, and running hair dryers. Here is a link that might be useful:...See Moreosmary hernandez
