Can you elaborate on the pros and cons, comparing Sweet Mademoiselle to Leonardo da Vinci, especially concerning their disease resistance and post spring flush bloom output?

Moses, I only have Sweet Mademoiselle and so far she is a wonderful rose. No disease and healthy. The color is beautiful.

The only issue that I have with mine is that her blooms tend to be pointing straight up so I have a hard time seeing them. She is in ground 2 years so hopefully she will put on more blooms in the middle of the bush.

I will be interested to hear comparisons of the two.

@Diane Brakefield I was reading through some of the older comments, and I just have a question on your Colette rose. Do you recommend it as a climber? Is it pretty free blooming for you or is it rather stingy? I’m just looking for a really pretty climber with nice blooms and likes to flower. I had my heart set on Eden, but after reading some comments on it tending to be stingy in colder climates, I might lower it from the coveted #1 position on my most-wanted list hahaha (if any other cold climate folks have personal favorites they’d recommend, lemme know!)

Ingrid- thank you for the 'deanna krause' pics! She is an incredibly tough, heat tolerant, everbloomer. I've observed her at the Earthkind test gardens in Farmer's Branch, TX (Dallas suburb). 'Deanna's' parents are Tom Carruth's famous 'fourth of July' and Buck's 'carefree beauty' which is one of the parents of 'knockout'. I've grown 'fourth of july' and 'carefree beauty'- both tough and heat tolerant, but 'FoJ' has viscious thorns. Does deanna have a scent? 'Purple splash' is a close relative of 'FoJ' and has performed admirably in central TX with a nice fragrance

That's also what I want, flowers that point straight up. In my climate proportions of bushes are usually smaller. Sweet Mademoiselle is looking better and better.

Leonardo da Vinci is a rose from the 90's when thought was transitioning in the rose world to breeding roses for disease resistant. His disease resistance may need close scrutiny.

Moses, I know my disease pressure is nothing like yours....but.... This June was a wet test for my garden and many previously healthy roses had issues with black spot and botrytis. Not Sweet Mademoiselle. She was healthy and great and no balling. She wants to be a tall upright rose, I have her in the back of my border and she's happy. Large blooms, lovely fragrance, decent vase life. Also, thrips don't seem to damage her blooms...another plus.

I do not spray. the flushes are pretty constant from spring to late fall

Moses, I agree with the posters above in regards to her blooms facing consistently upright, large, and delightfully scented. I actually think she would be a rose that you would love, and work well in your limited space. I have severely neglected her last year and she did develop some black spot for me. However, when I watered her deeply, and applied fertilizer again, she still shot out massive new basal canes almost immediately. I have a somewhat similar climate to yours(Columbus, OH), and haven’t really noticed much balling. She gets sun from 11am onward. First flush is robust, and then she flushed consistently for me through the rest of the season, with some blooms in between the flushes as well. The one aspect that you may not care for is that her outer petals take on a mottled appearance, almost like poorly done tiedye. I pick them off sometimes, when bringing inside, but, eh. They still look off to me on occasion. Good strong stems, no nodding, the strongest scent in my garden. I suggest!

It gets huge, even as own-root in my zone 5a. Pic below was over 6 feet tall (2nd-year own-root in late Oct.). Moonlight Romantica is the short yellow below it.

It looks like below ALL the time, a truly continuous bloomer. Peter Mayle is on the left margin. Peter Mayle gives one-tenth the amount of bloom. Both are in 4 hrs. of morning sun. Pic. taken in hot August:

Bush gets wider as 4th-year own-root in 2022, every single leaf is perfect, even the lowest ones in late fall. Mine is right next to the rain-spout, dumping tons of rain. It's a water-hog, being low-thorn and large bush. The best flush is right now 9/15/22:
