Rug pad or gripper?

Raeyn
last year

Hi!

We recently purchased two of the large IKEA Stockholm wool rugs for our living room and bedroom. I understand that they need something underneath them - a pad, a gripper, etc as they are slipping and wrinkling.

What I'm not sure of is what would work best. IKEA's under pad has mixed reviews because it's extremely sticky and I've wondered if anyone has used it and what you think. Alternatively, we could use a gripper like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08YND4YV6/ (although I'm looking for a PVC free alternative) or a pad of some sort kind of like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2ZB695Y/ - though there are loads of alternatives. They make pads both with sticky undersides or without and in multiple thicknesses. I don't know where to start on ideal thickness or whether the felt will stay put by itself or whether the pad needs a sticky base. I'd love to hear any thoughts and experiences.

To give a little additional info, this is going on actual hardwood flooring - albeit very beat up. And it will have furniture on it in several places (sofa, ottomans, etc).

Thanks so much in advance! Any info would be incredibly helpful. :)
