Usually, the manufacturer sends a product for cleaning/conditioning when you buy the piece of furniture. Have you tried these? Maybe they did not send them with your item- either go to a furniture store and ask for the products to buy, or go to a good saddlery store and ask for a good saddle/leather conditioner. It will take the majority of the scratch marks out, but depending how bad the scratches are, they may not all be removed. How big is the dog? Was it just him/her getting on the sofa- toenail marks, or doing damage by digging/chewing/destructive? Being a dog lover, I just have to ask...the dog isn't punished or put outside is it?

It was probably a no-no, but I used a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on mine. It dulled the finish just a bit, but who knows what the crud was so I didn't figure I was losing anything. You could test a small spot first. Car detailing places would probably know of some things to clean ink if the good old stand-by of hairspray doesn't work. Most of the leather cleaners we've used in the past were for general grime. My cows must be pretty tough because some mild soap and water worked just fine. That's a finished leather (also called Protected or Pigmented) and it's a painted finish atop the hide. That's by far the most common genuine leather finish, the other which is typically on higher end pieces is Aniline (vegetable dyed). Aniline leathers don't show marks like that, what you are seeing is paint chips because that chair was put on a hand truck and moved without a pad being on the back. Those are typical marks from handling. The good news is paint is paint. Get a small bottle of water-based acrylic paint from the local craft store and a tiny detail brush. Paint is a buck a bottle, so buy a color lighter than the chair and also black - blend as needed to get the shade Get matte finish if you have an option Then simply paint the areas with the chips, when dry, take a little leather conditioner on your finger and massage that area with it and that will blend out any edges. This is a 5 minute repair and will hold up well. I've done hundreds of them.

He might try saddle soap. While I imagine the leather is permanently stained, maybe it would make the chair and ottoman look better. Seems I saw recently Dawn dish det. can be used to remove sunscreen, so he might try that in a small area. There are leather cleaning and conditioning products which also would probably not remove the color but might improve appearance (Meguires is one.) Maybe a slip cover for the chair? Just my 2 cents.
