Ah the memories your post brings of me 25 years ago, my first house and all the plans I had for my little 4 acres. You may be a little ambitious, but then again, so was I. And isn't it great to have the space to be ambitious? So a little advice from someone who's been where you are now. First, rejoice and be proud of the sucesses, because there will be some, learn from the failures, there will be some of those too. Take what you have learned with you next year as you plan out your gardens and next year, remember what you have learned then and take it with you the year after when you plan your gardens, and so on and so on. IMHO, gardens are never done and that is the wonder of them. I personally wouldn't move the gooseberries if they are producing well where they are and you are able to havest from them. That's the way I am with the wild raspberries, blackberries, elderberries, hickory nuts, black walnuts, sassafras, and strawberries. To me half the fun is getting out in the neighboring fields/woods and collecting the fruit. Plus another thing you will learn is that you don't want to take up space you can use for another plant with something that you have easy access to. Congrats on the new home and the new gardens, and have fun in the coming years as your gardens and gardening passions develope.

Finally got most of my fling finds planted tonight, including replacement broccoli (aka Dawn's urban north broccoli outpost), garlic and several ornamentals. Also my pepper seedlings went in the ground tonight, too. Still have a few fling heirloom tomatoes but need to add compost and manure to the new spot for them. I have something I was unable to identify. There were three black square qt(?) sized pots, and I believe they were labeled on the table underneath but don't remember the name. I recall they were some sort of shade item, green strappy leaves, maybe with lily in the name? I am having a hard time figuring them out, but picked them out thinking "Ah! Perfect spot under the elm tree for them." Now if I only knew what they were... If that sounds familiar to anyone, it'd save me from dragging the camera out. Thanks!

Glad you know about storing them in the freezer. I learned that here, and the hard way after having a bag go bad on me. Here's a recipe I made this weekend, in the bread machine. It's a light bread, not very sweet but good with cream cheese and jam for breakfast. Lemon Poppy Seed Bread Recipe 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast 3 cups bread flour 1 tablespoon lemon zest -- grated 1 1/2 teaspoons poppy seeds 1 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons sugar 4 tablespoons nonfat dry milk powder 1 tablespoon unsalted butter 1 cup water 1 large egg 1 teaspoon lemon juice GLAZE: 2 teaspoons unsalted butter -- softened 1 teaspoon lemon zest -- grated 4 tablespoons powdered sugar 1 teaspoon lemon juice -- or more Add all ingredients except those for glaze. Use basic cycle. While the bread is cooling to room temperature, make the glaze. Glaze cooled loaf of bread by drizzling glaze on top and sides of loaf. Let dry before slicing. Not very specific directions I know, but I just dumped everything in the bread machine according to the manufacturers directions for adding stuff (liquids first), and it came out good. The only thing I can add is use a "light" setting for the crust, I used med. and it is a bit overdone. I didn't glaze mine, so it's good for toasting.

I'm glad to hear that the LED lights are working for you. It sounds like you have a much bigger space than we do, with only 2 more lights. I think this was perhaps our biggest mistake -- just too many of these lights. (As I mentioned, I was worried that LEDs wouldn't put out enough light). Maybe if we had only installed 4 of them, the amount of light would be ok. To reduce the number to 4 at this point would require completely re-placing the lights and rewiring. I wonder also if the increased number of lights in our smaller space is amplifying the effect of the flickering? i.e. maybe it wouldn't be noticeable if the lights were further apart? The housing and dimmer switch we have are both on the compatible list on the Cree website. All 7 of the lights are connected to the same dimmer switch. So I'm not sure what the problem is. When they are on at full power, they don't buzz or flicker. We had friends over yesterday and at full power they thought the lights looked great. (It wasn't too bright for them). Then I dimmed them and they didn't think the buzzing was too bad. They also didn't really notice much flickering. But then I started waving my arms around and they were shocked. The strobe effect when the lights were dimmed made my kitchen seem like a disco! Cbjmidwood, when you dim your lights and wave your arms around, is there any strobing?
