2 doors with separate frames = 2 separate doorways mulled together. This does not equal a 6' opening, except during the rough framing stage. You will have 2 separate completely framed openings side by side by the description given. I have seen the setup I think you're talking about (2 doors in 1 single frame to mimic the look of the patio doors). They took 2 doors and put a working latch & deadbolt on one and the receptor on the other. The receptor door also had a non-functioning handle and a slide bolt on the top & bottom for stability/security when the door was in the closed & locked position. You might be able to have a 3 point locking mechanism installed--check with your builder on this. The big thing that stands out to me when you do this is that it is hard to get the same look of the patio doors. Patio doors like you get from Pella, Jeld-wen, Andersen, Marvin, etc all have a more sleek look because the glass sits in a low profile frame. Most imitators have a bulky plastic frame that holds the glass in place. In my experience, the plastic yellows (even with a coat of paint on it) and the plugs for the screw holes never line up properly. The closest I have been able to find to a door that looks like the real patio doors from the manufacturers mentioned above is the Plastpro flush glazed door. You may want to check them out. This is a personal preference question, since I have two soap dispensers at each sink! (One for hand soap, another for face soap, which cuts down on counter clutter. Hey, it works beautifully for me.) The way to do this most efficiently is to choose a lever handle, single hole faucet, so the faucet handle holes can be used for a soap dispenser, so there's nothing ''floating'' around.

a few years ago I had Wonderful Windows come out and give me a quote. They said they would have to custom make my door. My slider is 9 ft X 8 ft. My house was built in 1978. The slider in our living area is in bad shape. There is another slider in the master bathroom (of all places) right next to the toilet. That one is smaller.

I concur with boschboy! I have Thermador double wall ovens and have used both ovens for many years. The advantage of a French door (for a top oven) is in insering/removing very heavy (cast iron Le Creuset 9.5 quart) cookware from the upper oven's middle shelf. Those who are shorter will appreciate being able to get closer to the upper racks when inserting/removing items rather than stretching across the open oven door. I use my double wall ovens to bake six pans of cookies/pastries/pies simultaneously, or to make a large roast in one and many side dishes/desserts in the second wall oven. I bake breads, frequently, and in addition to the double wall ovens, regularly use the warming drawer to proof breads/keep plated meals at the correct temperature, etc. I have experienced back problems and would never have a range, requiring me to bend that far when baking/cooking. I also prefer have electric wall ovens and my gas cooktop.
