If there's only 32 inches between the island and the staircase, you need a smaller island. Or to shift it down (not sure if that is possible in your situation)

Are you still in the framing stage?

It is already framed in. so nothing can move regarding that. Im badically working with an open floor plan but have those two windows that are throwing me off.

Looking at the pic of the framing--the staircase will have a rail, and the island will be open so I think you can get by with 32". Shoulders are the widest part of the body. If you are still nervous about 32", omit the narrow cabinet to the right of the DW and use a return panel instead. I like the workflow and appliance locations (for a one-sink plan).

I was going to suggest moving the window on the left over to the right so that the ovens can go at the end. Everything is stuffed on the right side of the kitchen and there’s too much random countertop on the left with no function. If the siding, sheetrock, etc isn’t up yet, moving the window will be easy. But I also have no idea what the rest of the house looks like (Is this the front of the house? Bqck? Side?)

here is another layout using shorter caninets to the left and essentially ending my kitchen there. it makes my kitchen island 7x4 instead of the 10x4. but this gives more room for walking on the left side. (best i could do with drawing a layout lol) thank you all! still keeps the same work flow but adds space for walking. BUT i want a latger island so bad!!! opinions on what you’d do.. keep it with larger island and give up waling soace or shorten the kitchen but have more walking space??

IMO 7' isn't wide enough for a sink, DW, and an adequate prep space. I'd suggest 8', which would also accommodate 4 seats.

I just worry about the left window and it looking ”off”. if i do an 8ft island it will be roughly 6inches into the window view but there will be no cabinets directly under it. would that not look odd? having an island longer than the caninets behind??

Don’t shorten the perimeter cabinets. The island can be shorter than the perimeter.

The windows have to stay and cant be moved (i begged for that but it isnt a possibility unfortunately) if any of you have other ideas im open to anything these are just the only options i could come up with. i thought about doing an pizza slice island and have it coming out towards the rest of my living area but that elimanated the sink in the island… i shiuld also me tion that on the back wall to the right thats frame dis also a door to a bedroom. so you can go down the staircase, outside the back door, or to a bedroom. i dont want to block that area off too much due to that. I know it isnt the greatest layout but its what im working with..

I agree will emilyam; don't make the cabinets on the perimeter end short of the window. What is the distance between the stair rail and the corner of the proposed cabinets? Will that be a pinch point? (Is that a door? I can't tell if there are jack studs in the framing.) You are not going to have space for seats on the short end of the island, especially with 32". The NKBA recommends 44" to walk behind seating.

The space between the stair rail and corner of the proposed cabinets is roughly 36inches. that is the tightest ”squeeze” i have. otheriwse i went back and remeasured, the walking space between the island and stair railing is roughly 40”. im most worried about the corner cabinet and stair railing but am thinking it may be okay.

Again, as there is space above the base cabinet and rail for shoulders, 36" will be fine. After all, doorways are usually 30-36". I have only 28" between my LR and kitchen (old house problems) and no one has ever been stuck ;). 40" sounds even better for the aisle.
