Paint Other Design Dilemma

Wall color help please…

Our kitchen cabinets are dark and the granite countertops have a warm tone to them. We would like to paint the walls a lighter color so the room doesn’t look so dark. I really don't want to paint or replace the cabinets either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

It's hard to determine colors from online pictures, but look at BM Edgecomb Gray or SW Accessible Beige (depending on which brand you like). If those are too dark still, look at BM Soft Chamois or Classic Gray, SW Alabaster or Greek Villa. If these don't work for you, let us know what you don't like about them and someone will make some more suggestions. To start you should bring home a lot of paint chips and see what looks good with the cabinets and floors. Once you have some good candidates you should start sampling.

Hi everyone I'm a newbie to decorating and really need wall color help ok there's my kitchen living room and hallway I have three colors and need only two a soft sage green, a soft gray and tan (latte color) when u step into my front door u can see straight into my kitchen. My kitchen cabinets are white with solid black counter tops which of my three colors would look best? I have black forest oak floors all over my house they are gray and I need a color for the living room that would flow with whatever goes best in the kitchen please help! Oh and stainless steel appliances haven't purchased furniture yet!

I think Palladian Blue would look great. Other pairing options are: new hope gray philipsburg blue aegean teal (although they may a bit too dark) You could also look at Yarmouth Blue, Whythe Blue, Wdgewood Gray and see how they coordinate with Lancaster Whitewash, which I think has a slightly greenish undertone.

I agree with @Natalie Marie, if that works with your colors. I just did my house in Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray. It has become my favorite color (very subtle, neutral, but gives the perfect tone to the room). Hope that helps! ~Rachel www.homesweethomestore.com

Have a look at the colorography lab at ‘the land of color .com’ It breaks down lots of popular colour into their key attributes first. Hue Family - to which does it belong and where within that Hue Family does it sit? Value - how light or dark does the colour appear? Chroma - how near to neutral or how saturated/colourful? LRV - how much light does it reflect or absorb? Even just knowing the Hue Family alone, would allow you to combine colours from the same Hue Family. They will have a shared common thread. This would be a monochrome palette. Choosing a colour from the opposite side of the wheel and you would be creating a complementary palette. Also you can narrow colours down even further. e.g. If a colour with a Value of 8.1 feel too dark in your space, then you know you are looking for colours of 8.2 and above, to give the light feel you need. 🌈
