best way to paint steel and glass?

Pros-
I purchased this lamp and would like to paint the base and also the glass.
What’s the best way to paint both?
The base is Steel, nickel plated, acrylic painting (per IKEA description)
I would like to paint the base, if possible, either white black or silver.
The glass perhaps a blue tone.
Any suggestion?

I would not paint it. Regular house paint does not stick very well to metal, and if you want to paint the glass, you will need special glass paint like what is used for art glass. Regular house paint is opaque, if you paint the glass it won't function as a light anymore.

Thank you. I wasn’t planning on using regular house paint for either. Was looking more to get experts suggestion as to what type of pain to use and how to do it.

I tried them all.......I had to work really hard and still got streaks until I listened to the folks here who said Bar Keep Friend. I didn't have any on hand so I used Bon Ami (guaranteed not to scratch). I used 2 cups hot water and about 2 tablespoons Bon Ami and kind of dissolved the Bon Ami in the water. I wiped it on with a soft towel, scrubbing where needed with additional Bon Ami and wiped it with a rinsed out rag. Dried it with a dry towel and in seconds, literally, no streaks, shiny, clean.........amazing ! I can't believe I wasted all that money on stainless steel cleaning products. I was ready to sell my stainless appliances because they looked so crummy all the time. No wax, no oil, no nothing but clean......yeah! Oh and the bottom freezer section is exactly how filthy the whole thing was.

Best or easiest way to remove paint from bathtub

Ironically, your happenstance with the vinegar is one of your best bets. Try heating it up and it should remove it faster. It is often used to clean paint brushes after paint has dried onto them. I'd personally bring the vinegar to HOT in a tea kettle or the like, lay down a bunch of old towels in the bathtub and then soak the towels with the hot vinegar. Let it sit for a while, remove the rags and then use a scouring pad. No clue how much of the paint it will remove, but if just scrubbing with a rag was getting paint off, I'd think this would get most all of it off.

Thank you, same thing my husband says and is doing. I was hoping something less severe. Last few bathrooms were not nearly as old so tile came off easy. They weren't messing around back then.

Use a spray metal primer and then spray paint of the color you want. For the glass part I would probably take paint and pour it inside the shade, roll it around and then pour out the excess, then let that dry completely and do the same again. That way the outside of the glass will have the original texture.

**However**, the light that comes through the painted glass shade will be terrible. It will not shine well or evenly through the paint.

You may be able to try Rustoleum Frosted Glass spray on the shade.
