Best granite sealer for kitchen countertops?

What is the best granite countertop sealer? I use a granite cleaner polisher but was wondering what a good sealer is. Thanks

how strong is the smell. When I saw it mention hazmat and strong smell it got me worried how long the smell will linger after applying. Whats the difference between the hydrex type? My granite already has a shine. Not sure the difference. Thanks

You should seal NVG once a year. I'd recommend to use a water-based impregnating (penetrating) sealer. The ones where you apply with a cloth are better than the spray-ons. The fabricator should seal the stone upon installation.

Hi everyone, this is my first post! We're remodeling our kitchen and our granite countertops came in today so we went to the stone cutter to check it out. They told us about an industrial sealer they will use on the granite but we will be responsible for doing it ourselves after about 6-7 months to maintain it. This got me thinking because we had granite tops in our bathrooms a few years ago during a remodel after a toilet compressor tank failed and flooded our home. We we NEVER given maintenance tips for granite before so we didn't know about applying a sealant 1-2 times a year so I want to do it now. My question is what do I use to clean the countertop NOW, right before I apply sealant? There are some calcium buildup around the faucet area that I'd like to remove. Thanks

Neither Uba Tuba or Tropic Brown granites need any sealing at all. They are both very dense granites. Don’t seal them. If you seal them, it might mar their appearance. Very dense granites like those two won’t absorb sealant, so the sealant ends up sitting on the surface causing a hazy appearance. did they not seal it? they should upon install. to test it, drop water on it. check after 5 mins. is it still sitting there or did it absorb? if the latter, apply sealer. i like 511 or Aqua mix penetrating. Always test on a spare piece first. if you don't want your stone to enhance or deepen, get the sealer that won't alter the color. it will just say 'penetrating or impregnating sealer'. No enhance.

Are you sure your granite even needs to be sealed? Many granites do not need sealer at all. A lot of fabricators seal the granite immediately after they install it, just as a matter of course and the "finale" to the installation, but the granite may not need it. What granite do you have?

There is an easy way to see if your granite needs to be sealed or not. Drip some water on the counter. Let it sit for 15 minutes. If the water absorbs into the stone, the stone needs to be sealed. If the water is sitting on top after 15 minutes, then wipe it, and see if there is any water stain showing (it will go away in a few minutes). If there is, then some water has absorbed into the stone, and the stone needs to be sealed. If the water did not absorb and did not leave a water stain, the stone does not need to be sealed.
