Looking for ideas to finish around a duct coming out of the wall

Jason Deal
last year

We have a finished bathroom in our basement. We left the ductwork that goes through the space and to an upstairs bedroom exposed so that the ceiling could remain higher. We love the industrial look of the duct passing through, but the entry point to the wall is funky. We used to have a black trim ring around it, but it still seemed to look odd. We're wondering if either trying to cut and piece a trim board around the whole thing or using a huge drywall patch to fill the whole thing with drywall putty would look better in the end. Any suggestions! Thanks!
