dish soap, laundry detergent, tub cleaner - brands please
Comments (21)Dish soap - lemon smelling ones are nice, but I don'thave a favorite brand. Arm& Hammer Laundry det. either powder, or if the liquids are on sale, the unscented! (yes!) and/or the one with non-chlorine bleach. Cling wrap - saran if really necessary or go with some other method! Cleaner - Ajax or Comet, or if on delicate surface - the Scrubbin' bubbles stuff. I don't want to use the aerosol can, but the product usually works on scum that other products don't budge. Or, use full strength vinegar. Someone did a study that showed vinegar killed 99% of germs just like a lysol type product. We make pancakes from scratch...also waffles until the darn waffle iron malfunctioned. Anyway! about that maple syrup. I like to trade genuine amber Massachusetts maple syrup for orchids :-) So, next March make me an offer of some fabulous orchid and I'll send you a pint. :-) Substitute maple syrup for molasses in a ginger bread recipe, and you'll have a fabulous treat. Yarn: Lion brand "Homespun" is what I'm using now to make ultr-large scarves. Knits up very soft and fluffy and somewhat springy, so when you wrap one of the scarves around your head twice, it feels good and does not unwrap. (It's wicked cold here already!) Merry merry... Comments (6)After a number of failed attempts at removing the obnoxious detergent smell from clothes I came across your discussion board post that said that in the lab they found that the detergent contained wax and oil. Your post suggests using kool aid clear as a cheep source of citric acid that should work to remove the smell, leaving the smell of kool aid that would supposedly fade over time. Hmmm dubious solution to trade one scent for another. (perhaps this poster works as a promoter for kool aid). However, this got my brain ticking and I thought well, if there is oil perhaps dishwashing detergent would remove it. I washed the clothes by hand (obviously adding dishwashing detergent to a washing machine would be a terrible idea) in water as hot as I thought would be okay for the fabric and used a generous dose of dish soap. It worked! Smell is basically gone. Before I couldn't be in the same room as the clothes (even after trying baking soda, vinegar, multiple washings, hanging in the sun and leaving in the basement for a year). I also found out that we have container of food-grade citric acid on hand. I'm sure that using some of that would produce even better results. Citric acid is available inexpensively on Amazon. Happy descenting!...See MoreHE laundry detergents
Comments (2)Congrats on the new machine. FWIW...I use about 1/3 cup of Tide HE powder for a full load in my 3-yr-old Duet. I have soft water. My machine's capacity is similar to yours, so perhaps that may be helpful. Whatever you choose, do NOT use the amount the detergent package tells you to use with their included scoop or cap measure. Measure it yourself and learn what works. Start on the low end and work up. Many, many people start out their HE machine experience with over-soaping disasters due to lack of familiarity. The stories are legion. Don't know if this is new experience for you. Just saying....See MoreLaundry Detergent Recommendation for Dog Toys
Comments (30)Good advice everyone. The heavy shedding on the Beagle is a disappointment and picking up on scents, I do live in the woods but my back yard is enclosed with a 7 foot high fence. But the wildlife still gets in ..So I just don't know...I've thought about stopping at the shelter and telling them what I'm looking for..so maybe I'll do that. I'm not rushing into anything, this is something that will take careful consideration. it also does not need to be a purebred dog...a heinz 57 needs a home also...my requirements are low shedding..no bigger than medium sized...it must be a puppy...my kids will love a dog reguardless if its a show dog or a mutt. And it needs to be healthy and hardy. I'm taking my time..the boys know this isn't happening this week..and it could take months...they understand. I just don't dare take them to the shelter with me..or they will want whatevers there lol....See MoreOutsidePlaying
