The cutting was planted into a 4 inch pot , containing rich well draining potting mix , [ from a local garden center ] peat ,perlite and Schultz potting mix for cactus and succulents. No recipe or measurements. Everyone has their own personal way of rooting cuttings , based usually upon precedence. Besides...when you are a gardener/plant nut , you are allowed eccentricities. I probably just enjoy the idea of mixing the contents of assorted bags together....enough people root successfully with tap water !!!!!! :) Anyway , there are 15 tiny leaves above the soil , and about an inch and 3/4 of stem under the soil, [ 2 nodes ] . I made a very slight and gentle scarification , and added a little rooting hormone , before planting . When I say tiny leaves I do mean tiny. Mature leaves are only an inch and a 1/4 . Thankfully the plant isn't wilting. Ryan, you asked about how the houses fared. My friend's house was fine. Just ruined landscaping and some brown areas of grass , from standing water, due to storm surge. We just put on a new roof on our bungalow [ did it ourselves ]. The house needs to have new insulation put back into the attic , new gutters , [ old ones are 23 yrs. -same as the house ] replacement of missing or bent soffit and fascia . We painted some interior ceilings that were stained from water intrusion ,and our 12 year old daughter needed a new bedroom carpet. Another task is to replace a piece of drywall in the garage ceiling. The whole garage could use paint anyway. The outside wood garage trim needs to be replaced , because I caught it with the bumper ,while attempting to park the Toyota as tight as I could , alongside the garage door. Our house faces east , and it is open and unblocked by other houses. For all Geography Buffs , that means we welcome breezes of all strengths right from the Atlantic Ocean !! All this is trivial damage compared to so many Floridians. Many of my friends lost homes or businesses. Now don't anyone ask " Why do you live there ? " It has been 75 to 80 degrees and sunny , all week. What's your weather when you step outside your door ? :o My personal disappointment ,is that we lost so many limbs off our oak trees that surround the house. Looks almost like a chair in "Antique Trader" price book, chair is called Missionstyle (Arts & Crafts movement) book is from 2010 & price listed was $570. That is a very nice chair & I would fix it properly. Not saying your chair is worth that much, you need to clean it up, see if it's oak. Go to library & look in Antique furniture book to see what seat looked like. AS to age I'm sure someone can help on that but I sat on 1 similar to that in my granpa's ins. office 70 yrs ago, seat was dark brown leather, I felt very important , suppose that is why I remember it so well.& I think it had been there a long time. book mentions 1 from 1900 as Mission. The piece under the arms that curves out I haven't seen before. Will be very nice chair when cleaned up!

I ordered a long cover for our VAH b/c it was in stock and wasn't going to take as much time as a custom-length one. I did what chris_harper2 mentions- the duct and cover stick up in the attic about 9". I forget how I marked it before cutting the ceiling. I'd think it'd be pretty easy to make a template out of cardboard or plywood that'd be rigid enough for your purposes. Besides, a little caulk covers slight misses. Our flue cover, IIRC, has corner reinforcement tack welded at the ends. Cutting would've meant getting rid of the reinforcement and having a less-rigid cover. Also, if you're only talking about 3/4", you could take the hood loose and drop it just enough to mark the ceiling. To me, those options are simpler than finding someone to cut it and not mess it up. FWIW, plasma leaves clean edges, but I'm not sure whether it'd scorch. If you do slide the cover above the attic, I'd make a cover to go over the opening. Then foam or otherwise seal it in place so you aren't venting your kitchen into the attic except through the duct. I made one out of plywood and cut it in two so that I could put it over the top of the duct cover (and around the duct) after the whole thing was installed. Here is a link that might be useful:

Also in Ontario here. I'm not a roofer, nor a roof expert, but my husband has done some repairs here and there on our roof, and we've both inspected it over the years. Your picture above is a bit dark to see. But are you are saying that the part of the roof which is darker is the part just underneath the eavestrough on the upper roof on the 2nd floor ? If so, one thing to do is to make sure you keep the gutter clean and unclogged above that spot - because if there is constant water overflowing from the 2nd floor onto the garage roof right at that particular spot, you will find a lot of deterioration on the shingles where the majority of the water hits. We have small sections of our roof which deteriorates much faster than other areas specifically because water pours from the high roof to the lower roof. Watch during a heavy rainstorm to see if the water is properly going down the downspout from the 2nd floor roof to the roof over the garage, or if it is pouring over the edge. If pouring over the edge, you'll see faster deterioration in your roof shingles. I make a point to go out during rainstorms if I can to watch for clogging. If you've ever cleaned gutters, you'll find in addition to leaves and such, you'll find little shingle particles. So as the shingles deteriorate, little bits of them come off and collect in the gutters. You might see lots of little bits of shingle directly in the gutter above the garage door and just below the darker area. This can help to affect the colour of the shingles. There may be a different reason for your darker shingles, but I suggest this only because it looks like the darker area is directly below the upper roof. Sometimes you can look around the neighbourhood and see other people where the roof is failing in specific areas just because that part of the roof is being bombarded with too much water.
