Thanks to Crafty_lady and her DD.......
Comments (35)Chris - We just moved to this area and the people here are so amazingly friendly and generous. You wouldn't believe the stuff that people put out for free here. We went out yesterday to pick up the stained glass and stopped at a few garage sales along the way. We got some really cool stuff - I'll have to start a new post though, this one's getting kinda long, lol. Slow - Thanks for the anniversary wishes! We had a fabulous day. Went for an afternoon cruise on Kempenfelt Bay, aboard the "Serendipity Princess", then DH took me shopping for a new outfit and out for a scrumptious dinner at a really cool little bistro that we've been wanting to try for a while now. He's such a sweetie and I feel incredibly lucky to have him in my life. Stjohnsgypsy and Katie (and everybody else!) - Another free classifieds site I've had really good luck with is Kijiji. In Canada it's www.kijiji.ca and in the US it's www.kijiji.com Good luck, I hope everyone finds some new treasures! Hrsg - Thanks, I can't wait to start using them! Ann - Thank you, I hope you have TWICE the luck! Ronnie - I looked on Mapquest and it's 1112.50 miles from Barrie, Ontario to Harrison, AR. Three hours - how fast do you drive woman?????? Guess I'll have to hang on to your half for now, lol. GGG - Isn't it awesome? I was practically drooling in her studio and definitely plan on giving her my business in the future. I think I just might do some Christmas shopping there this year. She also takes old, damaged photos (or new) and puts them on tiles. These aren't decals, the way she explained it, it's like an ink tattoo on the unglazed tile and then she does the glazing herself after. I think it would be so cool if her good deed generated some business for her. Hope you find something you like! I am in Barrie, how neat that you grew up in the area. Wow, you sure ended up moving a pretty good distance away! Whew, this is getting pretty long-winded again! Sorry for rambling on. As soon as I take some pics, I'll start another thread for the new stuff. Cindy...See MoreDaughter furnishing house
Comments (11)The style of your daughter's table, as you can see by the photos posted below, is very similar to our dining room table which my DH inherited from his deceased elderly aunt in 1980. She purchased this table well before 1940, but we aren't sure exactly when. It is a double pedestal solid mahogany table, with a much darker mahogany stained finish than your daughter's table. I believe this style is referred to as a Duncan Phyfe style. Our chairs, though, were made in the 1800's in England, and were bought at auction here in SC. Your daughter made a great purchase, usually mahogany tables in that pristine a condition are priced much higher in this region, yet I've had much success finding some beautiful pieces at auction in the Charleston and Savannah areas. It looks like you had a great shopping trip....See MoreQuestions About Furnishing a Rental House
Comments (38)I won’t be actually shopping in person, unless I can get a spot in the Atlanta ikea early one morning. They severely restrict numbers of shoppers in the store. I might look online and then just go to check stuff out in person. I probably would only shop Target online, and since I‘ve never done craigslist and am not on FB I dont imagine I’ll start with this project. The hotel liquidation center is open sporadically. It is a huge place and I have never seen more than ten people there at one time in about 40,000 sq feet of space. I’d feel pretty safe there with a mask and gloves. We put in an offer yesterday and are under contract today. The seller did not expect to have a sale this quickly (three weeks on the market) and wanted to know if she could rent it back from us for a few months while she makes plans. Of course we are delighted to rent it to her for as long as she wants, and that takes pressure off me to do things too quickly. I’m not under any time constraints but every month without a renter will make my end of year figures look worse....See MoreUsed furniture/FREE off CL/Thrift store find. Do you thrift? New only?
Comments (37)I loved reading this post during the week. Now I'm in front of my computer and can participate! We've spent that past four years redecorating most of our small house. Of all that, the only new things purchased were our bedroom furniture, including the bed + a side table, lamp and chair. There are many reasons for buying used furniture, housewares, cars and clothing. #1 I like things I can't afford new. #2 New things are usually too big and bulky for our small bungalow #3 I'm a hunter/scavenger In this room, only the bar cart was new. Everything else was flea market, consignment stores, 1st dibbs and craigslist. The mirror was my grandmothers. Some of these things were definitely not cheap. In this room, only the upholstered furniture, rug and the gold/mirror side table were new. Everything else was a gift or came from consignment stores (near & far), eBay, 1st dibbs, The RealReal and estate sales. Like the other room, not everything in here was cheap, but it was affordable for my budget....See Moremtnrdredux_gw
