Dining room design ideas without chandelier

We have just moved in house with large open floor plan with living, kitchen island, dining all a single big space with modern finishes.

there is a ceiling fan in dining area. i am debating if i should replace the ceiling fan with chandelier of anchor the dining room with artwork? style is modern throughout the house. is chandelier a must?

Yes!! A nice chandelier hung much lower than that fan will anchor and help define a dining room every time!! It appears the junction box is not well place for how you have the table set up. That can be dealt with. If you are asking if it's NECESSARY the answer is of course no if you have cans, but it's expected. What a great space to find something super impactful!!

Personally I don't care for a fan directly over a dining table. It's hard to say without a floorplan or some pictures what a chandelier would do for the space. A compromise would be a close to ceiling ornamental fixture that did not hang down below more than about 6-1/2 feet from the floor.

I am assuming there must be some recessed lighting .

You need a light fixture so you can see. So yes, lights are a must. Post some pics please.

I would forget the shelves by the fireplace. That TV is too high and could have gone on the left wall with a nice cabinet beneath with maybe some display and the sofa facing the TV and sitting on the rug so that you can access the door. Decor items and art are things you need to shop for. The art in the DR is hung too high , hang some art on the entry wall with a coat tree in the corner for guests and a shallow shelf under the art.

I like your chandelier choice. You might be able to go bigger and definitely hang it lower than your current fixture. I would consider pulling one of the colors out of the rug for your drapery panels, use a more substantial fabric than you have now. They should also be hung a little wider. Are they always closed for privacy purposes? Hopefully one of the pros will chime in with buffet suggestions. Something for on top of the table would look nice too, perhaps a long tray of succulents. And art of course. Every room needs some art!

When you are young and have a small space and not forever furniture is a wonderful time to have fun with your decor. If I were you I would paint the table top navy to go with the chair seats, keeping the nicer wood on the table base and chairs. Now comes the fun part - dressing the room and table. Pick a table runner or place mats or dishes that will work as your inspiration for the room. You can go bright and bold, or pastel or neutrals or a mix. With navy blue and the light wood there are 100 color schemes you could choose. You could paint the walls the light teal blue gray and use creamy white dishes with these placemats. You could do red placemats and light blue walls with these dishes. You could do a light coral/peach wall color with white dishes and this table runner Or light gray blue walls with this table runner Linen white walls and gray dishes with this runner . . .

everdebz, good point. I just showed her that because she asked for a match to the pendants. I think the table (or at least the bench and chairs) are a bit out of place. They're very country/amish/tudor inglenook-ish! I don't think it works w/the style of the kitchen or the bar stools. But, if the eclectic look is what she wants, then it's a good start! these sets would work w/the light and the style of the room similar style of table. diff chairs. adding something to that bare wall would go a long way.

There are several recessed led lights above the dining table area so lighting is not an issue at all. its more for the design element

If I had a chandelier over my table, I’d want it centered over the table (or the table centered under the light). If that wasn’t possible, then I’d leave the fan.

Also another query, is the painting too small for the wall and should it be centered on the entire wall or starting from end of the island
