Chandelier size & ideas for dining room w/ high ceilings
Comments (16)Thanks all for the honest advice. The furniture on the left is small china cabinet with our crystal barware on display. I don't have to keep it here, but I'm not sure there's another great place for it in the house. Behind that there's a doorway to the kitchen + breakfast nook. I'd hate to redo the drapes since we just got them and they were pricey. They are pinch pleated dupoini, so while not heavy, they are not quite as casual as they appear in the photo (although they really need a good press still). We did think about going taller with them, but got talked out of it at the store, since they said that raising the hardware too far above the window would put it in no man's land--just kind of floating disconnected from the window. I hadn't thought about painting the angled portion of the walls all the way to the ceiling. We've kind of been treating it as a giant tray ceiling and considered that angled part the ceiling. Maybe extending the painted part would help bring the ceiling down a bit? I also like the idea of more/larger art on wall for texture. aktillery--I like the light you posted. Do you know who makes it?...See MoreDining room without a chandelier?
Comments (37)Rita, you're asking the wrong person-I love stain plus paint for years..so if it is a moment-my moment is almost twenty years old..:) I don't know whether it sounds reassuring enough..but whenever something is beautiful and speaks to you-well it will continue to be beautiful, and to speak to you. I'm so relieved you liked Curray and especially Canopy..my dream dining light was a Canopy one..I still look at it from time to time. Mine was orangey-red one..:) Truth to be told-they all are beautiful. They'll all work. It's question of the room as a whole... Adelman one is absolutely gorgeous. As always. I prefer glass to be white, in case of dining-the light will be softer.. As for Canopy Designs-I believe you can have some choice there, in terms of colors..? Lindsey Adelman's one will be a sharp and wonderful counterpoint, great for the space, no doubt. The Currey one...their finishes are to die for..great craftsmanship. (others will be too I'm sure, but it's only Currey ones I saw IRL.) Will look more majestic..I'd say a tad more predictable, but the room is so streamlined it won't be really. The Canopy one will probably be the most unexpected of them all..the most "I don't give a damn". It's a bit scary while one decides, but the result might be truly rewarding. It's hard to decorate everything at once, so I personally behave like a proper stone age person-a hunter and a gatherer. You're very much in this journey already..you have your idea. Now it's developing it..and as in every story some parts will be written as if some high power moves your hand, and some will come together slowly. I'm sure you know that better than I do. And only you will know which was which:) in the end. if the end is to come at all. And if it doesn't that's even better It's really exciting(I'd say I'm excitedly jumping on my chair weren't I in bed right now))..and I admire you for sharing your ideas with us. I think it takes courage I don't possess. Or something else that I still don't possess lol....See MoreDesign ideas new home - mostly dining room, entrance, family room
Comments (3)I would forget the shelves by the fireplace. That TV is too high and could have gone on the left wall with a nice cabinet beneath with maybe some display and the sofa facing the TV and sitting on the rug so that you can access the door. Decor items and art are things you need to shop for. The art in the DR is hung too high , hang some art on the entry wall with a coat tree in the corner for guests and a shallow shelf under the art....See Moreneed some ideas for a chandelier for the dining room.
Comments (13)everdebz, good point. I just showed her that because she asked for a match to the pendants. I think the table (or at least the bench and chairs) are a bit out of place. They're very country/amish/tudor inglenook-ish! I don't think it works w/the style of the kitchen or the bar stools. But, if the eclectic look is what she wants, then it's a good start! these sets would work w/the light and the style of the room similar style of table. diff chairs. adding something to that bare wall would go a long way....See MoreRelated Professionals
