Microwave with lit control panel?

Were microwaves with light up display panels a victim of the mandela effect? (Not just the clock/ timer) Do they not make these? Any suggestions and model numbers? We will have a microwave shelf so planning on a countertop going in there, but a built in may still work.

I have a microwave over the stove and it lights up. Has a clock on it and it is lit up. Mine is a GE about 3 years old.

these are both the handle-less, extra-wide door style which I don't like but may not be a problem for other (possibly taller?) people.

We have a GE Advantium zsc1001kss, a pretty high end model. I can only get the small LCD display in the center of the panel to light up. None on the touch buttons are backlit and are impossible to see. I can't see how to turn that on or off in the manual so either, they don't light up (which makes it VERY hard to use the thing, almost have to hold a flashlight on it to see what the buttons say) or something is broken. Does anyone have one of these and if so are all the buttons on the control panel backlit?

I think my problem is resolved. I decided to try the simple test -- I turned the power off and on and everything reset. It sounds like it's making ice again. I'll know for sure in a few hours. The "filter" alert is on, and I'll change it, as I do each time (every 6 months).

Haha...I guess having 3 types of appliances isn't a big deal. We are getting close to having to order our cabinets. After thinking about it over night, I think I will go with the Sharp drawer. I can fix the excessive beeping, and as phooneycat says, the drawer taking 3 seconds to open is not that much. About as long as it would take me to get a spoon. Does the door open automatically when done? I had asked about an upper microwave cabinet and now realize that it would have to be wider than the 13" width that I would have. Which means a wider base down to the counter top. I don't want to lose that counters top space, so we are back to a drawer. It's funny, because when we started out planning our house, and kitchen, I said that the one thing I would not have is a drawer microwave. It's nice that most of you love the microwave drawers. ;) The plus side of having the drawer is easy accessibility should DH or I become wheelchair bound at some point. We are building close to a ADA compliant home as we can, or feel comfortable with, for this stage in our life. We are 63 and 68 and are aging in place with our last home. Thank you all again!!!

Agree - I don't love the sound of a kitchen exhaust fan but I'd give anything to have one again instead of my current OTR microwave that does not vent to the exterior. Even when I had one that did - and directly out the adjacent wall - it was still pretty ineffective. And as far as clearance, beware of the low hanging OTR microwave that is in the way when using a long utensil in a tall pot. Seriously - find a different place for the microwave.

What is the GE model number?

Based on the photos, only the clock and numbers on the Whirlpool WMH78019HZ appear to be lit. The Cafe CVM721M2NS5 controls do appear to be lit -- against a gray background -- but it's $900(!).

While they may not be lit, the lettering on the control panels of the CR-recommended LG LMV2031ST and LG LMH2235ST appear to be high contrast white against a black background.

JVM195DF1CC is the GE model #, The clock lights up, when you push cook time button it will light up in the clock area, but not the button itself.

She wants a microwave where all the controls are backlit. Some ovens have low-contrast control panels. Perhaps manufacturers think that ovens look sleeker if the control panel text has less contrast with the background. This Whirlpool WMH32519HT is an extreme example:

Typically it's only the LED diodes that are illuminated.

I do not recall any instrument panels illuminated for maybe 40 years.
