Short ground cover herb?
Comments (14)Edible ground covers we've been looking at for a zone 7b garden: Corsican mint, prostrate rosemary, creeping thyme, golden creeping oregano, Lingon berries, sweet woodruff, wintergreen, nodding onion, bunchberries. list of sources: Richter's, victoryseeds dot com, mountain valley growers, Raintree nrseries, tiny seeds dot com, darcy from the forest dot com. Haven't verified the reputations. Buyer beware, caveat emptor, your mileage may differ, batteries not included, no warrantee expressed or implied....See MoreFavorite companions plants / perennials/ground covers/living mulch
Comments (53)Here is what mirabilis (4 o clocks) look like with Mystic Beauty. Blooms are show and last until fall. Self sowing, but easy to recognize and pull out. I originally got this two years ago because it was supposed to be poisonous to Japanese beetles, but the it blooms after the JB peak. I notice that JBs have become less of a problem especially this year but I am not sure if that is more due to my vigilant picking them every morning for two years in a row. I also have a yellow mirabilis but it has not bloomed yet....See MoreSHORT Ground covers for shade?
Comments (10)I am currently watching a tremendous battle between a large patch of lamium orvala and an even larger patch of violets (v.riviana?)...both of which are doing (too) well in my dry shady wood. Starting from a single plant of each, the combined spread is around 8square metres...so some brutal spadework has been in order...but since any blank space in my wood is instantly colonised with silene dioica or various labiates with less welcome flowers, I am not unhappy about the colonising abilities of either the violets or lamium...and when they meet up with the patch of self-heal (prunella) I may sell seats for the gladiatorial spectacle. All have sterling, ground covering, weed repelling, properties...but I may live to rue the day... The phlox stolonifera (corrected after reading peren's post) has been less than stellar., vanishing mysteriously in year2), .but the little creeping woodruffs (gallium sp.) have been a good choice..and primula vulgaris has divided to form thick, evergreen colonies of gorgeously textured leaves.....See MoreGround cover roses comparison - Drift vs Sunblaze vs Vigorosa
Comments (22)I have one red Sunblaze rose that I rescued from a grocery store last year. The colors on the rose are gorgeous and this year, it is starting to take off. I have a ton of blooms on it at the moment that are just getting ready to open. I have not had any issues with diseases but then in my area, I am not prone to having plants with fungal diseases. My rose tends to grow more upright rather than cascading. However, it is still a baby so I don't know what the final result will be. So far, I am happy with this rose. Color stays a true blue red, not orange. My phone does not photograph red roses well so sorry for the poor picture. I have not taken a photo this year (just video) of the bush, so I don't have anything that is a better picture for you....See MoreReb Z6-KS
